I have a 73 VW Bus, (body style that went from 1968-1979), and a Cooper Mini most definitely would not fit inside... or at least, you wouldn't be able to fit it in through the cargo door.
Going by the outside width specs 70" and 55.5" respectively, its quite possible. You have to figure in at least 6"-8" between the exterior and interior trim X 2 sides. I dont see the measurement for the rear door width on the van. Even if walls are wide enough, it may not go thru the door.

The rear door would be modified, either to open up or to one side. I dont know, I just love the idea

I had a buddy who restored a Sunbeam Tiger with a Ford small block. He bought one of those wierd older GMC motorhomes with the curvy fiberglass body that had a gutted interior. The rear was removable with big screws. He just had a machine shop build up some hinges for the bottom and reinforced the panel. To go to shows, he just flipped down the rear end, used it for a ramp and drove his Sunbeam inside it.

I could barely fit a 90cc Honda trail bike in my '65. The engine hump has to be taken into account, you know. The Kombi isn't just a rectangular box with a flat floor.

I figured the engine was up front, and all I had to wory about was the wheel wells. Maaaaan, this wouldve been cool.
