Supposedly consumers are upset with this. Branding is a huge part of the Starbucks success, and consumers are miffed that their cups are not clearly marked, so they can show off that they drink Starbucks. The decision, by Starbucks, to eliminate the words Starbucks and coffee was based on their future plans on diversifying and not being solely based in coffee. Short term pain for long term gain. Starbucks is a marketing phenomenon, and I think this is probably a good move.

On the their website there using the 1992 logo-that's the logo I was viewing last night load-up my card. I saw on TV during an interview-the owner paid some kid a couple of hundred bucks to make a logo and it stuck.

I cant find it right now, but like that comedic logo someone created that had the mermaid holding 2 guns.
