The problem with a lot of that, or so I've heard, is that the body only absorbs vitamins and minerals in the presence of certain other vitamins and minerals. And their interactions are so complex, and haven't been studied enough, that we don't really know how to best absorb them. So, consequently, a lot of the supplements you take pass through the body without being properly absorbed.

That is true with a number of vitamins. Most people don't know that calcium blocks the absorption of iron. Also, calcium phosphate (not sure about the other forms of calcium) found in milk block the absorption of fats in general, which is good to know if you are dieting. High salt, caffeine and/or alcohol can inhibit potassium absorption. A number of medications block vitamin D.

Yes, like Green Tea benefits are only if you take it with Vutamin C, if I am not mistaken.
