My wife will hopefully be home tonight after a months stay in Tokyo. At the moment she is sitting on the plane in first class but still 8 hours out from Chicago.
I am a little tired of TV dinners and pizza.

You are just marking the spot where she will get welcomed home. Not mushy at all. In fact it will probably be a little hard.

Very sweet. Make sure you are as presentable as those flowers and sign.

Maybe put them up on a table , though? (unless she's very short)

This is a couple of steps up from our mud room as we enter the house from the garage.
When I turn the light on in the mudroom it will be the first thing she sees.

The fact she has been gone for a month and your house is still that clean is a nice touch.

Good point. She'll make love to ya for a month on that point alone.

I say if you can afford it, go bigger.
Something like a rose for every day she was gone.
And a card that talks about how you are nothing when she is gone from you.

They like meaning in these kinds of "romantic connections".

Not at all too mushy. If you love her, show her...
