3 different DR's over the course of bout 4years now say they cant find anything wrong with my knee.. xrays, moving it up/down for 30min, some kind of ultra-sound like test...nothing...
i dont know how to describe it, normal walking, or standing im 100% fine, ive always done some rkinda workout, but bout 4years ago, my left knee would "pop" when doing leg curls, but no pain, but if im doing like P90x or insanity, or any kind of "hard core" thinks like that, or ride my big up a big hill without dropping to a very low gear, it will "burn" at the top of my knee like right above the knee cap....
now that the temps too cold for swimming or going jetski'ing i need to start harder workout (before i start getting fat again!!) but this just aggravates the hell outa me when my leg basicly gives up on me!
Welcome to the club...my elbows to the same thing ...sometimes just for funnin I'll have a friend cup thier hand around my elbow while I curl 5 pounds...it dont hurt, but is ALWAYS good for sympathy points with some girls

Possibly a chafing nerve, like carpal tunnel in the wrist. I have that sciatic nerve problem over my quad, I work my lower back and my thigh catches a soldering iron deep inside. The sciatic nerve is common and the doctor knew right where to look. Next time it happens, have a sharpie and outline the borders of the burn and any areas around that may feel 'off'. More information for someone who knows what goes on inside the knee.

Sounds like an imbalance of lactic acid if it only occurs in 1 leg after exercising. When you exercise anaerobically, such as weightlifting, or sprinting, your muscles are burning a supply of glycogen to provide the chemical energy needed to allow them to contract. They burn this in a metabolic process without the use of oxygen - hence ANanerobic (without air). This results in the production of lactic acid, which is toxic to the body and produces the burning sensation. After you stop contracting the muscle, the belly of the muscle relaxes and the pressure on the blood vessels is reduced, allowing increased blood flow which results in the supply of new oxygen and the removal of the lactic acid buildup, so the burning sensation diminishes.
Edit to add....they may not be able to diagnose this because there is nothing physically wrong that they can see. I assume this only happens after strenuous exercise?

Would you say the pain/burn is somewhere in the Quad tendonabove the kneecap in this pic?
Maybe it's bursitis?
What is knee bursitis?
The knee joint is surrounded by three major bursae. At the tip of the knee, over the kneecap bone, is the prepatellar bursa. This bursa can become inflamed (prepatellar bursitis) from direct trauma to the front of the knee. This commonly occurs when maintaining a prolonged kneeling position. It has been referred to as "housemaid's knee," "roofer's knee," and "carpet layer's knee," based on the patient's associated occupational histories. It can lead to varying degrees of swelling, warmth, tenderness, and redness in the overlying area of the knee. As compared with knee joint inflammation (arthritis), it is usually only mildly painful. It is usually associated with significant pain when kneeling and can cause stiffness and pain with walking. Also, in contrast to problems within the knee joint, the range of motion of the knee is frequently preserved. ---
For me, I sometimes feel heat directly underneath my knee, but it often occurs when I'm not exercising.
---- Hope they\you can figure it out!

No one's done an MRI? I'd get an MRI with contrast (An I stress with contrast) as that will show thngs no X-ray or CT will show. I had the same kind of thing with my wrist. 5 years of Dr.'s telling me to take advil and move on, and it would only hurt if I moved my wrist in a certain way otherwise it was fine. Finally got a hand specialist to do an MRI and it showed a torn ligament that could of been saved had it been caught when I originally complained but now had to be rebuilt with other tissue since the ligament had worn away after 5 years.
Good Luck!!
