Gunman Reported on University of Texas Campus
Police Respond to Scene in Austin; Unconformed Reports Are that Man Shot Himself, Officials Say
Police at the University of Texas at Austin are investigating reports of a man on campus who may have shot himself.
UT police spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon said Tuesday that "preliminary reports are that this person shot himself, but that is not confirmed."
Weldon says the campus was put on lockdown around 8 a.m. Tuesday following a report "of an armed subject" at the Perry-Castaneda Library.
Weldon told The Associated Press that nobody else was reported hurt. She had no additional details.
A statement on the UT website, at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday, said "stay in place, lock doors." A loudspeaker on campus was announcing there was an "emergency" on campus.
Police barricades were in place in an area near the library, located on the southern part of the campus.

Breaking News: UT Austin Police Say Gunman Dead, Nobody Else Hurt.

Associated Press
Tuesday, September 28, 2010

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Police at the University of Texas at Austin say a gunman who opened fire inside a campus library has shot and killed himself and police are seeking a possible second suspect.

Police spokesperson Rhonda Weldon says the shooting happened Tuesday morning on the sixth floor of the Perry-Castaneda Library.

She says a man with an automatic weapon opened fire inside the library, and no shots were fired outside. Weldon says "he subsequentely shot himself. He is deceased."

Weldon says "we're asking everyone to stay away from the campus."

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the gunfire.

This is sad... I've been in that place before but am glad I am out of it. Depression is hard to deal with.

On the news they were saying the kid ranked 7th in his high school class and seemed to be academically focused and very bright.
I guess depression or whatever he went through can get to anybody.
At least he didn`t choose to take other people out on his way to ending his life.
One guy said he was driving down the street and the kid ran past him with gun blazing, but that even though the kid was shooting in his direction he wasn`t shooting directly at him or at a few other people he ran past.
