is there an actual Necronomicon? yes, I know there is book you can buy at Walden Books called the Necronomicon but, I always thought that was basicly the same thing as the "Satanic Bible", by Levay, which is just a modern authored book, with a great choice of title. if I remember right, the original Evil Dead movie was inspired by the Necronomicon and, the modern day book called the necronomicon is more based on HP Lovecraft books - which are great reads - but horrible movies

To answer your question...No. The Necronomicon is purely fictional.

You sure about that? According to some of the Pagan writings I found a while ago, there actually was a real Necronomicon. It was loosely based on other Occult teachings, but (as the title suggests) it dealt almost exclusively with the Necromantic arts. (more communication with spirits and controlling spirits than actually raising the dead)

"Bound in human flesh and inked in blood, it contains bizarre burial rituals and demon resurrection passages. It was never meant for the world of the living."
The Necronomicon is a fictional grimoire appearing in the stories by horror writer H. P. Lovecraft and his followers.
Historical "Books of the Dead", such as the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead or the Tibetan Bardo Thodol, are sometimes described as "real Necronomicons." They should not be confused with the Lovecraft Necronomicon, since their contents are meant to be read to and remembered by the dead, rather than to be used by the living to summon the dead. Lovecraft may have been inspired by these books.

Ha! I have always said if NOTLD happened, I would sharpen my swords, load some guns, and aim for the head and hope the movie was right. A little bit of Army of Darkness, too, and put blades sticking out all over the Fiero and drive it into a bevy of Zombies. Good stuff!
