######################################################################## 8-28 Got to drive it this morning. All you can say is WOW!
Ok got to drive this morning. I had to work until 2am last night. Got woke up by this alarm at 7:15. Needless to say some neighbor was not to happy. As soon as I got back from a little "drive" the sheriff showed up from someone calling in a complaint. (old people sheesh!) They where told there was loud noise and racing though the area. Never exceeded 25 driving out until I got on the county road...honest officer.. "she" was good about it and after knowing it was a one time thing did the "have a nice day and hold it down" line. Wanted to get a picture with the sheriff car but she ask us not to. Didn't want it ending up on youtube etc..
The Drive. Not really made from someone 6'3" (7Meg.)
I always wanted to fly in a jet fighter but will have to settle for this I guess. 0-80 is about 5 sec. or less as close as I could tell. Gets a little loose around 80. I didn't get fast enought that the wing really started to function.
And the return... Forgot the sunglasses. You eye lids start to flutter around 80 without a windsheild...

dam that looks good. make me miss my friends in n.j.. was the frame a gambler chassie.. i raced microstocks no n.j./pa.[a go-cart w/a cage] lower than a champ cart, smaller than a mini sprint. as i think about your street leagal sprint car i was thinking wheely bars. you just might need them. i love speed week in fl., nothing like late models, sprint cars and big block modifides. i miss building aluminum bodies over the winter time and raceing over the summer. you are the man and your son does know how luckey he is. now you need to buid a 2 seater.we need to see a video next.

That s super cool. I saw one like that outside of the Knoxville Raceway a few years ago. It is strange to see a sprint car pull away from a stop under it's own power. I'll bet it is a rocket.
When the state trooper stopped him the only thing he could fault him on was his rear license plate was behind the drivers head. The stater said it needed to be lower on the rear. Other than that it meets all Nebraska requirement. Has a title and all.

EDIT: I think slicks are a no-no here too.. but that's a minor fix.
A friend of mine has some M/T rear tires like that and I believe the 3 little lines on them make them street legal. Barely but legal. And I sure wouldn't drive that in rain or through a puddle.

Theres a company here in Ohio (Waverly I think) that makes and sells street legal Sprint cars with/without wings. They seat 2 people side by side or behind each other. Here, you dont need the fenders, windshield. It does have to have nerf bars or bumpers front and rear. You have to have turn and stop lights. You dont need wipers or head and tail lights unless its used when those are needed. Fenders and windshields are only required if the original vehicle had them which a sprint car dont. I know they were also talking about doing Indy or Formula cars too. I do know the Indy IZOD 2 seater was cruising all around Columbus last week when they raced at Mid Ohio. They were taking people for rides all over town.
Well Saturday morning this baby is going to be parked in my driveway and I get to take it out for a spin. They are taking it to a nearby bar in the country for a show. He is parking it at my place so he can run home and get some rest from work. That will wake a few people up in the area.

Their more custom built. He has a order from SD already from a guy wants one.

Typical camera audio but you get the idea. CLICK TO WATCH Turn you volume up to max and you might get the idea. (1.5meg.)

Just today I saw a guy driving a Caterham Seven on the road, and I thought, "How the heck did he get that registered and insured to drive on the street?"

In my jurisdiction you need a horn, lights, daytime driving lights, signal lights, and fenders.
Glad to see you could do this. Done any serious quarter mile times?

Not here, theres street rods all over the place with none of that. Your only required to have turn signals and brake lites. As long as you have tags and registration papers, and insurance card tell the cops to go to hell. If its too loud they could give you a ticket for that. My guess is whoever complained just assumed it was a real race car. I took my last oval track stock car and put turn lites and brake lites on it. Tail lights were slits in rear bumper with red lenses and put amber lites in the front brake ducts. I drove it on the street all over town for 6 months. Cops didnt even say anything about the headers for a couple of months. They finally made me put mufflers on it since I was driving it almost every day. Got some funny looks cruising down the freeway. This was an 89 Tbird with its full logoed and decaled Hooters body completely intact. Even still had window net in it. It corned great on freeway exits Did the same thing with my 92 Tbird racecar. I usually just took them to car shows. Not that practical for date or going to grocery store in.
Make up a list of what options you want and I can get you a quote. Not sure if you are serious, but if you are:
As shown: which aside from motor/transmission(accompanying equipment) , lights, guages, and tires is 100% Sprint Car. Very rough ballpark would be somewhere between 30-35K. Price would vary depending on options though.
As far as water... I went through about 12" of sprinkler runoff, tapped throttle and left 10 feet of rubber on 22" street slicks. We have yet to take it to the track to get some numbers. One guy who has been in racing says it pulls like an 8 second car(not sure if those are 1/4 or 1/8 times though). Hoping to get some track time in near the end of the month weather and work permiting.
Shoot DodgeRunner a PM if you want any information (or the number is on the wing 402-826-1460). This was built for advertising the Machine Shop he started up. It has it's price and the car is for sale if anyone is interested. I'm not sure what he would take for it though.
**I started this account to look for 3800->Fiero conversion information, so I'm on here very rarely.**

First well done on the car, its one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. I have wanted an open roadster for as long as I could hold a set of keys.
I have about $6000 tied up in my Fiero and it needs about another $4000 before it will be finished. I have about $8000 tied up in my Corvette and it will need about another $3000 before I will call it stable and if I ever get the Fiero done it will start getting upgraded.
So as much as I would like to dream I just couldn't afford it. But if I ever hit the Lottery I will need something to go to the store in and will keep you in mind.

lucky you for being allowed to drive that on a public road. here the engineering inspections that would need and the lights on the front and the rear, including headlights , Turn indicators, tail lights, rear lic. plate lights, solid roof, windscreen, seat belts. Here we HAVE to have at least 75% of the wheels covered. We have to have the tyres covered with finder{mud gard}. Just to name a few things i can see , comparing the rules in NSW Australia to what seems the rules in your state

Perma-Grin and I think I even giggled for a few hours afterwords as well.
The price is a biggy but in all reality, it's pretty cheap for as fast as you go.
It dyno'ed with 340 at the wheels. Here's a dyno vid probably 30-100mph in roughly 8 seconds, but that is moving a 6000lb. roller. When it's just the car (1700lb.)... you do the math. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oxu2Ghji7Ok
It has a regular title. But vehicle decription is: Sprint Car You need to have a VIN made up for it. I'm pretty sure it's the same process as a Kit Car. Insurance is a bit of an issue since as soon as you either describe it or show a picture the conversation ends there.
Get your order in now. He's already working on a second and possible order for a frame for a 3rd. That puts starting around Spring/Summer next year.
We ran a best of 6.92@~98mph in the 1/8. I think that is somewhere in the 10's in the 1/4. Not sure though. We did manage to snap the tailshaft housing off the transmission, so the car is down for repairs. I did talk him into a few upgrades so the trans will internally handle even harder launches should the need arise.
We're going back to the drawing board as far as torque management goes so the trans will not suffer again in the future.
If only we could throw $3K into the motor for heads, intake, and throttle body we would be having some real fun.

I overheard him on the phone asking about modding the engine because he "wants the front wheels off the ground".
Other than that, there's a second car that's going out of state when complete being worked on. It's running a 400hp 350 backed by a Turbo 350 (we'll see how long that lasts) with a Currie 9" only 4.xx gears (he's going to be disappointed after driving with the 6.23s in the first car).
Also a frame sitting out back for a third that's supposed to end up as a 2 seater.
Oh, forgot some track pics. We ditched the wings in favor of weight reduction.
And..... were beating cars with wings.
