That is pretty sexy. Why was it failed? Was that the only one produced?

From what I could gather, this was actually in the mid to late 90s. Shortly after this was built and marketed, the company ran into financial trouble and couldn't mass produce. They were bought by a company called Autobacs. Autobacs kept the chassis but redesigned it aesthetically and went from an RB26DETT at 550 HP to a toyota i4 making 150 HP. They called it the RS 01... and it is FUGLY!!

I have NO idea why they bought a beautiful super car and made into basically an uglier version of the MR2..

Heres an RS 01

You can see what they turned it into in orange in my first post...background

Yup. Tommy Kaira was a big name tuner in the 80's and 90's and did so many modifications to the cars they were sold as Tommy Kairas. They built only a few of the ZZ's. They were plagued with problems of being rushed into production before Japan's bubble market for specialty cars burst. Unfortunately it was too late and too over priced. Kinda an interesting story behind the company, really. Or so I was told by Atsushi, his brother works for Tommy Kaira, last I heard they are still tuning production cars.

edit: they are still going strong: http://www.tommykaira.com/index_tommykaira.htm

Yeah I remember driving those cars in Gran Turismo 2 on the original playstation. Fun little cars in game, sad story in reality though.
