The White House is imploring the website Wikileaks not to post any more classified documents about the Afghanistan war, saying U.S. national security and Afghan lives are at risk.
Press secretary Robert Gibbs says the leak of some 90,000 secret military documents already has jeopardized the lives of Afghans working with the U.S. and its war allies. Gibbs says the Taliban has declared it will comb the documents for the names of people who have cooperated with international forces in Afghanistan.
Interviewed on NBC's "Today" show, Gibbs said the release of another 15,000 documents reportedly still held by Wikileaks would do more damage. Gibbs says the White House "can do nothing but implore the person who has the documents not to post any more."
Just how weak is our government if they can't stop this on their own?

I'm guessing the pages weren't mostly blocked out or missing, like when they finally are or are not released through The Freedom Of Information Act. Shielding both the innocent & the guilty under the precept of "sensitive information".
It is a thin line between what we think we should know and what someone else thinks we should know.
Remember the "Iran-contra" paperwork? Should we have known?

Although it probibly could have been stated more politely in the form of "I think................", or "Do you think...............". And for the record, I do not dissagree.

Freedom of speech isn't absolute. Revealing state secrets and military information could be considered treason, if done by an American citizen.

Exactly. The person leaking these documents is a US citizen. And according to the definition set forth in the US Constitution, if that activity directly benefits one of America's enemies, then it is treasonous.

Yup, should send him out alone with a slingshot looking for Taliban in Afghanistan.
And it's not that I agree with Wikileaks publishing sensitive material but I really don't hink you'll stop that sort of thing anymore.

While true, there is a LONG-LONG history of hiding criminal actions and private profiteering behind the veil of "state secrets". Secrecy and the ability to act without scrutiny is the #1 technique of tyrants the world over, thru all of history.
