It has been a dream, although I'm only 25, it will continue to be my dream to hand make a vehicle some day. Im not talking just hand assembling, I mean like this guy did. (although I would not spend all that time "re-creating" something though, I'd make something origional) Custom made frame, hand formed body panels, interior, etc. Everything but the motor. That can be a "donor."
anyone else ever hand build a car? Or know of any?

Topic: Anyone seen or actually hand made an entire car?
I saw an entire car once, I remember it well, I was walking to the 'ol Postal Station, gonna meet the train, when there it went. A-Zooming by. Vroooooom.
Man, Those were the days, I later died of a severe Herpes infection... Man I got that when....Wait, what were we talking about?
Seen them, started one but never finished it. I grew up in a bodyshop so doing that wasn't an impossible task.
Been wanting to do it again and this time finish it.. Including designing the engine and building it. Tho i was going the sand rail route, this isn't a bad book : http://search.barnesandnobl...xter/e/9781859606469

funny statement in that description of that book: "A companion volume to "Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as $250" I would love to see someone make one for under even $1000 in materials! (legally!)
Looks like an interesting book. what were you attempting? got any pics?

Keep in mind that book is rather old, so comparing prices wont be overly accurate. But the theories still hold.
And no pictures, but if you picture a vw powered sand rail you will see what the frame looked like. Body panels were just going to be made with blue board forms with fiberglass laid over it. No it wouldn't be pretty, but it would be a car I never got past the frame stage before life got in the way. ( no engine, no blue board no fiberglass )
Just for reference, a sand rail in these parts look like this ( no this is NOT my image.. but its close enough, just a bunch of tubes bent up and welded )

I am in the process of gathering the materials and designing the suspension for my own scratch built lotus 7 replica based on the Chris Gibbs version of how to build a cheap sports car. I am actually going to be using the 2.8 that came out of the fiero during the engine swap. I will also be using an s10 transmission and a ford thunderbird IRS setup.
www.locostusa.com is a forum on building sevenesque cars that I am apart of. You can read all about the design challenges associated with doing this.

This ate up more time and money than I care to talk about.
Did my own tube frame in the early 70's (yes i'm old) for a fiberfab Valkarie --- 327ci corvair trans 4 wheel disk -- faster than stink was a lot of fun andI learned to never do it again!

It is probably 2ft long at the most, so It would fit in the passenger seat, rear trunk, and maybe even in the front tire stowage area without the tire in there of course.

I was 1/2 joking about how to transport it. Its a monster compared to mine .. Tho i think its too wide for the trunk? I should make something bigger like that.. might be something to do this winter when it gets cold. My garage is big enough to do that ... ( not much else tho )
Here is my tiny version, its about a foot long:

1. Could we see the rest of the pics? 2. What transmission/rear end is that car running? 3. How much would it cost for you to build me a Mach 5 replica? (A correct one, not the one in the movie)

Hello here are some more pics and thankyou. Thanks again Norm 574-255-7843 The tech is from 1960 62 so its old school. The engine is a 283 with three Stromberg carbs on a Weiand intake using a Halibrand quick change rear end diff. mold stage in sections hand laid parts in process removing foam and bondo buck from frame and it goes into the trash.

Somewhat OT, but after going thru my books i don't seem to have my buggy frame plans anymore.. Anyone got some they want to share in PDF format?
I'm seriously considering making a 1:xx scale working version this winter, since i cant realistically do a life sized version unless i rented a garage.
Sure i can do the design from memory/trial and error, but measurements are a bit fuzzy now.
