U-Fizz is more complicated, and requires 2 2liter bottles, their tubing system (or make your own), baking soda and vinegar. it creates a CO2 foam IIRC and the foam goes from the bottle with the vinegar and baking soda, into the bottle with your beverage. you then shake the bottle with your beverage and the foam to mix them together, creating carbonation.
would either actually create REAL carbonation? i think Fizz-Giz might work, but i think U-Fizz seems like it would cause for a slightly odd taste and would be a VERY temporary carbonation
I refill tanks for a guy who sells soda makers. His website is www.sodamakerusa.com I've been wanting one since there are a few flavors of carbonated beverages I really like but can't find anymore.
Every once in a while I bleed a co2 tank off into a drink to carbonate it but its not efficient. If I put some kind of defuser on it I'm sure it would work much faster.

the way the Fizz Giz works is sealing off the drink, taking as much air out of it as possible, and then injecting the CO2. obviously not perfect, but more efficient and effective (i assume) than just bleedig a canister into a drink. id like to buy it to see, but i cant justify the price lol
Whats the price? I might be able to build you something cheaper.
EDIT: just looked up that gizz-fizz and want to know WTF they are thinking. Unless the pressure is regulated as much as 850psi could be released into that bottle. If the bottle pops your biggest problems could be hearing loss and damage to your hand. Another problem is that many of those 12 gram co2 cartridges have oil in them.
Try this at your own risk, I will not be held responsible for any bodily harm that may result from playing with a 850 psi pressure source.
If you'd like to make your own system like the gizz-fizz simply buy a co2 inflator, a basketball needle and some kind of grommet or plug that fits tightly around the needle and can be installed in a hole drilled in the cap of a coke bottle. All of this should come in around $10 http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Pla...&hash=item3cadc065eb
The needle and grommet could be substituted with a ordinary valve stem like what you'd install in a car wheel but the valve should probably be removed.

bishop, they likely have a disclaimer lol. the instructions say to stop when something or other happens lol. and, the grommet or cap would blow off before anything damaging were to happen, at least in a standard water/soda bottle lol
I don't think I understand what the hell this is for. Also a 2 liter of soda is less than $1.50, if it goes bad I just throw it out and open a new one...

We have a u-fizz kit, or one similar to that, purchased from ThinkGeek.
Your quote isn't quite accurate in describing how it works:

The baking soda/vinegar combination is correct, however when used properly one does not allow the "foam" to transfer from one bottle to the other. Who wants a vinegar/soda solution diluting their drink? Yuck. Only the CO2 should make it across to the target liquid.
It works mostly as claimed. My only issue with claims vs. reality is the length of time the target liquid retains carbonation. It never seems to last quite as long as commercial products, even with an improved seal on the bottle.

I don't care for many of the generic sodas, except cola/cherry cola. That is the only flavor that doesn't get messed up. I do enjoy a few of the Shasta flavors, not sure if they are considered generic. Lately I have been trying to steer clear of sodas, except for with booze.

Never heard of shasta. And I think generic cola is what gets the most messed up lol. Generic rootbeer as well.

There's a full set of instructions at http://www.fizzgiz.com/DIYSodaMaker.htm for do-it-yourselfers. Check it out. But I think most folks would prefer a Fizz Giz. There are no moving parts other than the thumb button. It should last a lifetime. My drinks are fizzier than ever. I like vodka + tonic. Even though I use tapwater, l prefer my own tonic to Pellegrino ($5.50 per 6-pak) and Perrier ($3.85 per 4-pak) because mine is much fizzier.

Something that has not been said is to make sure the liquid you want to carbonate is cold.......It hold the fizz better. I have made drinks for several years with a seltzer bottle. It does cost more than it does to just buy pop but you can make unique flavors

Yes... REAL? Look up carbonator pump. Is use for post mix soda machine. ie any fast food etc shop... Makes soda water for syrup.
Fizz-Giz is based on product has been around for 20 years at least... example Sodastream Jet Starter Kit by SodaStream
