I'm with Ron. Wholeheartedly. I don't care how protected you feel. Reality is a right proper *****. (See, I did it again without PFF filtering. Just put in the "*'s" myself.)
Don. Go. Hospital. NOW!!!!!
Based on what you've described, you might lose your leg. You need to get fluids through your system to preserve kidney function.

Carbon, We're aware he went to the hospital initially but, if you read further, you will see that his swelling is continuing to grow. That is why we're concerned. This is potentially a very serious situation.
Nothing to update. I took a shower. Had coffee. Fed my dogs. Cursed the cat. Read the forum. Went on the porch and smoked some cigarettes. Had a couple of sandwiches and some orange juice. Took my antibiotics. Smoked some more Pall Malls. Took a long nap. Dr told me it would likely take over a week before it started getting bettr and not to be surprised if the foot and calf turn completely black before that.

Well, I beg to differ but, I guess I can understand from your perspective that there is nothing new to report. Thanks for checking in. How's Jane doing, caring for another like this can be tough. Get better.

You do know what happens after that, don't you? Usually any part of the body that turns black will eventually fall off. You might get black and blue (hematoma) but I don't think it will all turn black.
No sweat--I can carve a pegleg from one of the cypress knees by the pond.
I refuse to worry about things that 'might' happen, like an asteroid smashing into me in the next 1/2 hour. I've lived enough for 10 lifetimes already.

I'm laying claim to an Indy if you cannot drive any longer. Tough old fart.
No worries Ron--I have 2 Indys--of course, since you have made it abundantly clear that you don't/won't come this far to haul Fieros, I guess Jane will just have to find a local buyer should my demise or ability to drive become fact.
But, make no mistake, I do appreciate the concern you folks voice for my well being.

I did some reading online regarding copperhead snake bites, and apparently swelling, discoloration, and discomfort are just part of the deal, even with proper treatment. And it appears Don is getting proper treatment. So there's really nothing to worry about.

Don, In my defense, the reason was always the time it would have taken simply wasn't available. BUT.............................................
To be clear, I've never had the opportunity to transport a Fiero out of Texas, only into Texas. Don't tempt me there bud.
Hope your recovery is going well. BTW, how's the snake?

No, I'm not building an elec fence--if I were it would be 110 or 220 live AC--I just don't believe in half measures.
Foot is better, tho still swollen and red, but nothing like before. Occassionally, I get a sharp pain accross the top of it, but was told to expect it as circulation begins to re-establish itself--small veins and capillaries get damaged by the venon and swelling but somehow, they are evidently able to repair themselves.?
I won't lie--it was altogether, a very disconcerting experience. For one thing, it dashed my illusion of invincibility--somewhat anyway. For another, it has definitly changed how I do things on the property. I never used to think about snakes, just put my hands and feet anywhere. Now, I think about the sorry crawling, bitin, sneaky sobs everywhere I go, which hasn't been too many places outside the yard. And, it has curtailed my activities. I have lots of bush hogging to do, but tried it a couple of days ago, and that clutch being operated by my left foot made it not much fun. Saturday I was able to mow my yard , which is quite large--with a push mower. Took me all day this time, and I was worn down when I got thru. I get tired very easily now for some reason, and slept almost all day Sunday. Maybe it's the antibiotics--I'm just not used to taking any, and have very seldom in my life as I am allergic to any made with Sulfa as well as Penicillin. But yeah, I'm still kickin--just not quite as high. Got lots of fence work to do yet, so I can't just sit on my backside like some of the Docs said I should. The older doctor I talked to, said the young docs don't know what they were talking about, and I tend to agree. He said to get a boot one size bigger and go do whatever I did before because it would encourage circulation--I liked his attitude and demeanor as well. "Sh*t-- man--I've treated snake bites longer than they've been alive and I've only lost a couple of patients from it--you just listen to me."
I would like very much tho------not to be #3 .

But, for the love of God, I can't wait until your foot is completely healed so I don't have to see pictures of those old dogs any longer.
I agree, I'm gratified to see Don is going back at it. If the bite or the medication are slowing him down, maybe I can keep up with him now. Yeah, them dogs have seen better days.
How is the foot?? ,,what effects do you still feel ??,,what medication did they give you.. I know many others are curious as to why you are not dead.. Has thier been a lot of improvement..??

Well, it's still swollen, tho not sore much now. Still hurts a bit if I use it a lot such as clutch operation on the tractor, and cannot use it to upshift the little 4 wheeler. Guess that's as good as it's going to get..
Medication? a bottle of hydrocodone, 30 days worth of antibiotics, and ibuprofen--and told me to stay off of it--which I did not. Nor did I take the pain stuff. While in the hospital, that just kept an IV running with antibiotics for 24 hrs.
