What's amazing is how good some of those songs are today, performed by much better players. Check out this group from Oslo, called The orignial bulls**t band.
It's a shame you didn't live in Miami during the late 90s...
Don't know if anyone remembers, but Disco came back "big time" in and around 1998-2000. Platform shoes were back in style, all the girls were wearing bell bottoms and shirts with fluted sleeves.
The BeeGees even had a huge Millenium Concert on new Years Eve of 1999/2000. At the time, Maurice was still alive too... so it was all of them (they live down here, together apparently).
Every single commercial that came on TV had Disco music in it, like Sprint Nickle Nights, or the Midas Muffler Disco Dance commercial...
Literally, everything that was on TV had a Disco song on it...
There were tons of Disco clubs that opened up too... PolyEsthers (one in Boca, one in NY), and there was a Studio 54 that opened up down here...
It's all closed down now, and Disco is for the most part dead again...
Disco is just Rock with a horn section! Which makes it TWICE as good as Rock!!!!
Disco, maybe, but Parliament is Funk, not Disco. George Clinton is one of the originators. Not to mention the musicians he had along for the ride - Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker.... Very different stuff. Some bands transformed from one to the other, some bounced back and forth. Parliament and Funkadelic (and the P-Funk All-Stars) are Funk.
Get it right.

Damn, I was around then, guess I wasn't paying attention, I have no earthly idea what the above post means. Don't translate it for me, it's more fun wondering what I missed,
Funk is like a happy version of the blues. That's ok. It's been said, "The blues had a baby, and they called it rock-n-roll," so it's cool. Disco, is sort of the illegitimate step-sibling. We sometimes invite it to family get-togethers, because we know it's expected. But the rest of the time, we generally ignore it, and we feel uncomfortable if we find ourselves alone with it. In fact, in these respects, it's kind of like country music!

Don dressed in Disco doing the Saturday Night Fever dance.
EVERYBODIES hair would afro seeing THAT!!!
Maybe stick to something a little tamer:
You KNOW that is very close to your highschool picture!
My highschool picture was taken in '68--in wranglers and Tony Lamas, but I had 3 of 4 kids who went thru it--much the same as measels and chicken pox, and I drag out the pictures everytime they visit--much much to their dismay. My daughter saw it for what it was and was the one with the DISCO SUCKS bumper sticker.

Man, as soon as I heard KC and the Sunshine band, I grabbed some Frank Zappa Albums and holed up in a lead-lined cave until I knew that Jimmy Carter was safely out of office and toxicity levels had returned to a survivable level. I emerged to find that Lowell George did not make it. What a shame.

I was a militant Disco hater. I retaliated with the Clash, Talking Heads, King Crimson (V2.1 with Adrian Belew), 999, Silencers (the first ones) etc. And Zappa, of course. OTOH, I have a new found appreciation for some of the old black groups that I ignored, back in the day. Earth, Wind and Fire, etc.
Edit - If anyone is interested, I've got an MP3 of an Ozzy / Bee Gees cover. Dweezil Zappa doing Stayin Alive. It pretty much sucks, but it's... interesting. Just for the strangeness of it. I also have Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa covering Britney Spears, Hit Me Baby One More Time. It freakin' rocks!
2nd Edit - Made another thread. Included both.

See, I was rased on Country by my Dad, Rock by my Mom, and I liked Disco. I had some really good times with it!
How Can You NOT Grind Against A Chick On This Song?!:
Remember, this wasn't the only kind of music we were listening to at the time, but It sure had it's place! With the right people, in the right setting, it made for one HOT night! Maybe it was all the coke

Wow, I actually like some of those songs. When I was a kid (in the 70s) my parents listened to Abba, the Eagles, and Blondie ALL THE FREAKING TIME. So I guess I just got used to it.
Also, there's a "boogie man" song at around the 5:35 mark in the video that caught my attention. Now I know where Rob Zombie got it from. See video below.
[WARNING: SHOCK ROCK]
Leave it to Rob Zombie to turn an innocent little disco tune into a heavy metal freakshow... LOL.
I've also noticed disco elements in a lot of other songs. So disco isn't really dead.
