Hey everyone. I would like to point out that the only reason I copy DVDs is to back up my enormous DVD collection in case anything should happen to them.

So, I've been backing up my DVDs using DVD Decrypter for a few years now. I use dual layer media so there is little to no compression of the information which would hurt quality. Recently, Decrypter has been able to rip them no problem but won't burn them. I even tried burning ripped files I had already successfully burned in the past and that doesn't work either. I haven't changed media or anything else in that time. I understand that DVD Decypter has been shut down; I have a feeling that has to do with what is going on here

Now I need a different way to back up my new DVD's on Dual Layer Media using something other than DVD Decrypter. Anyone have any suggestions?

What, you think that's preventing you from burning discs now? Not a chance.

Well, rip the discs with DVD Decrypter and try burning the files with something else. (Keep in mind that the burners themselves don't last a heck of a long time.)

I use a freebee version of Nero for burning CDs/DVDs which came packaged with a burner ages ago. Works great.

If I'm not mistaken, Decrypter uses Nero as its burning tool. If it is corrupt or uninstalled, the software cannot burn to the disc. However, can you still play dvd disks in the player? If not, the DVD laser has gone out. I have gone through 4 DVD burners that no longer burn DVD's...only cd's.
