I really can't see anyone else working. But then again Journey did it.
For those who may not know apparently back in September Steven Tyler left Aerosmith, since then there have been random stories about what is happening.
Steven co-founded the band in 1970. The latest I just heard on a radio station is the rest of the band are asking Paul Rogers to sing. Paul was singer in Bad Company, and also filled in in the band Queen since their singers death.

"Steven Tyler quits Aerosmith...
LIKE MICK'N'KEEF, they have had their differences in the past, but now the tension between Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry appears to have reached breaking point. So much so that Perry believes that Tyler has now left the band he helped form in 1970.

"Steven quit as far as I can tell," said Perry speaking to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper on Friday November 6. "I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."

The relationship between the singer and his fellow bandmates deteriorated earlier this year when Tyler fell from the stage in August while performing in Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, South Dakota. He suffered a broken shoulder and had to be hospitalized, forcing Aerosmith to cancel a number of summer shows much to the rest of the band's annoyance.

The Boston five-piece, however, were back on stage more recently when they played the Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi on November 1 but the atmosphere within the Aerosmith camp was described as "appalling" by one outside observer, who reported that Tyler did not interact with other band members prior to taking to the stage.

Perry is also understood to have been angered by the singer's refusal to commit to a new Aerosmith studio album which would have seen the band eschew their now-customary glossy power ballads for the hard rock sound that defined their early career.

The guitarist's frustration led to his decision to resurrect The Joe Perry Project - with whom he has recorded a new LP, Have Guitar, Will Travel. The guitarist describes his decision to work on his solo outing as a way of avoiding "a lot of sitting around" as a result of Aerosmith's inactivity.

Tyler recently helped form Dirico Motorcycles, a bike manufacturer, and has declared that he would be working on "Brand Tyler". The singer has also reportedly been considering lining up a series of shows in Las Vegas featuring a cast of friends and fellow musicians, but has yet to comment on whether he remains a member of Aerosmith.

Perry, however, is clear that should the singer finally decide to forge a career away from the band, Aerosmith will carry on.

"Aerosmith is such a powerful band, it's like a steam locomotive," Perry told the Las Vegas Sun. "As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to move Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch."

They're a great band who has made music for 40 years, which very few bands can say.

I don't think there's any shame in throwing in the towel and ending it all with some dignity.

If you haven't read their autobiography, it's a great read.

When I started listening to rock and roll, of any band, the music was fresh. All the old bands are stale. They are no longer leading cutting edge. I still like the music but the bands give me no enthusiasm. Ticket prices, albums, they cost too much. I am happy to hear their old stuff. When has one of these old bands had a new #1 hit ?
I have rediscovered live music of bands with drive drive. Americana and Country Rock is some good stuff.

The tastes of listeners have changed over the years. Just look at the CRAP that makes the top of the charts these days.

99% of rap music is complete crap, but look how popular it is. Bands have their own style, and if their style of music fades out of popularity, that means they don't make hit songs anymore.

But someone is buying their music, or they wouldn't still be making records.

Agreed on both counts. I know my listening tastes have changed, although I still like the nostalgic stuff very much.

Hit records with their fans though. Fans who like music for what each song is and not what happens to be selling to everyone else at the time, or pushed by the media.

Exact same thing could be said about the Scorpions. RIP

I would be hard pressed to come up with the best concert I ever attended.
Aerosmith was, however, unquestionably the worst. This was in '77 or so.

The sound sucked. The music sucked. The band sucked. Played for about an hour and done!
Farg 'em. They never got another dime of my money.

To contrast, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush was the opening act. Blew Aerosmith the fsck away!

Maybe Tyler being gone will be good for the band.
Sammy Hagar (however you feel about that particular argument) sure made a big splash with Van Halen.

Aerosmith had its first and only No. 1 hit in 1999... "I don't wanna miss a thing" from the Armageddon soundtrack (how sad is that?). It took the guys nearly 30 years to have a #1 hit.

Last I heard, Tyler was just worn out from touring and falling off of the stage multiple times during the aforementioned tours.

Heh hard to believe they had never had another one before. Pleasantly surprised that they had one so recently. I never did follow the charts.
Thanks.

Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush lay down some awsome blues-rock for sure! Frank smokes on guitar and the drummer is awe inspiring!

Worst cocert I ever saw was Van Halen in 1981 (I think, maybe 1982). David Lee Roth was stone drunk on his ass and forgot the lyrics (or just forgot to sing) and stopped the band a number of times to go on a drunken rant about babes and threatening to kick some dudes ass. The rest of the band sounded great but dave was teh SUCK.

I never saw Aerosmith so I can't really comment on any live experiences. I do however feel that only the first few albums are worth buying. After "Rocks" it was just crappy formula rock. Nothing special or original.

HOWEVER, Aerosmith is just not Aerosmith without Steve and they should just put the band to rest. I seen too many former rock bands come back with non-original members and they always come off as has beens. They could call themselves anything other than Aerosmith and probably do ok. But to remain "Aerosmith" is just plain wrong.

Hell, I remember when MTV was rock and roll and nothing else. Now it is 80% rap garbage and basically competes with BET for ratings. Very few white boy groups on the channel any more except for that new fangled $hit they play really early in the morning.

And that's not even their song, and it reinforces my comment earlier about what makes a #1 being crap. They didn't write that song; They were convinced to perform it because Tyler's daughter was in the movie.

And that's exactly the problem with pop music (and country too, since today's country music is simply pop with a southern drawl and a steel guitar): the artists have no identity, because they don't write their own songs. They just perform whatever various songwriters come up with.

Bands who write AND perform their own songs have soul.

Aerosmith IS a great American rock band. You may think it's sad that they only had one number one hit, but almost NO bands will still be around and making music 40 years after their first record. Number ones be damned, they have to be doing something right to make that sort of thing happen. Where the **** will Britney Spears be in 20 years? Snoop Dog? Hansen? The Jonas Brothers? Lady Gaga? 50 cent? Probably working in a Taco Bell somewhere together, that's where.

I saw them in 1997, and they were great. And there was plenty after "Rocks" that was good. Permanent Vacation was a good record. Who could forget Dude Looks Like a Lady and Rag Doll! Pump was good. Get a Grip had some good songs.

I kind of think it might be a publicity stunt. But who knows.

found a news vid clip

a song from 1989
lyrics somewhat fitting
"When you don't look back I guess the feelings start to fade away.
I used to feel your fire, But now it's cold inside
And you're back on the street like you didn't miss a beat, yeah "

I'm happy that they once again learned how to put on a good show.
Obviously they couldn't continue to do crappy concerts and still sell tickets.

But the one I paid to see was crap.
I think the late 70s was their "toxic twins" period. I don't much care.
Fool me once...

Anyway... I wish them luck, I suppose.
They never were really one of my favorites, but I never like to see anyone implode.

Ya, and it ruined the band, as far as I'm concerned.

Sure, they became a pop success because of it, but they were no longer the same type of band.

Have they really changed, or is it just that we are told its changed, and they feed the public the easy stuff?

Bad music is easier and cheaper to produce and if its all that you sell, what other choice do people have? Eat enough garbage, you forget what the good stuff is like. ( its one reason i rarely listen to the radio anymore )
