I've been looking to get back into some sort of electronic organizer, after being somewhat out of the game for almost 5 years. Used to have a pretty bottom end palm pilot, and it seemed to suit me ok at the time.
I've been using Gmail and Google Calendars lately, and would like something portable. I don't need to be always connected (IE iPhone, Crackberry), but would like something that I could at least connect via WiFi to do either web or simple mail checking.
Moneywise, I can't do the $100 a month for a cell contract with either of the two aforementioned options...
Any ideas? Seems like the only thing Palm makes these days are phones.

My first recommendation would be a Motorola Droid since it has wireless and Gmail and Google Calendar, etc. built in, but you're back to looking at a cellphone with about a $80+ monthly contract.
PDA-only devices are going away as most people migrate to multi-purpose devices so they don't have to carry multiple devices with them. You might try to find an older PDA on Ebay. I'm not totally up on what the iPod Touch can do, but since it's basically an iPhone w/o the phone, that might be an option. The iPod Touch does have wireless.

Yeah, I wonder if I'd be able to get the Droid and just not pay for the monthly data services. Like just get texting and regular voice, and use the WiFi on it to do anything I want to do when it's available. I'll have to stop by a verizon store and see what they say to that one. My main objection to this stuff is that first you pay like $200 for the phone, and then end up paying at least an extra $50 a month for the data plan.... seems like $800 a year to me. Kindof expensive for a device that you'll end up replacing if not every year, every other.

A lot depends on how much you have to spend. You can use an iPod Touch as a PDA and it has built in Wifi.
There are also some nice tablet PCs that are about the size of an old VHS video tape but are full PCs running windows 7. A friend of mine has one of these. He uses it as a multimeter, Oscope, takes notes on it and uses it as you would a regular PC. He even makes VOIP phone calls over it when he is at a Starbucks or other open wifi network.
You can also buy some Palm Pilots that have Wifi. There are a lot of options out there. It all depends on what you want to do.

Sort of expensive but the new ipod touches can get online via wifi, do email/etc but don't have a monthly phone fee since they aren't phones. Or, go the cheap route like i have in some cases and get a clone.
I got one of the real touches for xmas, and it does sort of make my trusty palm T/X look dated.. But my clone phone does mp3, calendar, and wifi and was less then 100 ...

I've been using a Palm T3 for many years now and really like it. The main feature that I liked is the large screen, but in a unit that I can fit in my pocket (the unit pulls open to uncover part of the screen). I'm seriously considering replacing it with an ipod touch (the latest one, gen 3). It is the same size as my T3, but has a much larger screen, since it is all touch screen and doesn't have buttons to take up some of the room on the front. The WiFi is a nice touch, as there are a lot of places to use it without paying a monthly fee. It basically runs most of the iphone apps.
No not buy a palm. I had there centro and litterley broke one every month. Palms do not hold up that well. I would sugest a blackberry or if you feel like going with sprint the instinct is a great phone.
