Trying to fiddle around with configuring raid at the moment, and getting windows to see the raid controller during install... Anyone want to offer some help?
I cant seem to do anything but raid 1 in the onboard LSI raid controller either.
Anyone suggest a decent linux distro to install? I already have a windows 2k3 server on the network serving most of what I want, I was hoping to make this a dedicated fileserver that meshed well with the main server.

It seems in the past I've had similar issues getting certain configurations. Make sure your drives match, and that both drives are being recognized by bios. If these are SATA drives try changing the drive settings in bios as well, maybe to IDE or automatic if it is listed. Other than that just the having the right F6 driver should do the job.

not sure if this is getting to simplistic, but, do you have the "F6" driver on a floppy? there is no other option but floppy for the initial install with windows & a non-detected RAID controller. that first prompt, after the machine boots from the OS CD, and it says, down at the bottom "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver..." this is where it happens and - it must be a floppy - or something as the A: drive

Now I just need to try to figure out how to get all 6 drives in one giant raid 5... For some reason It only lets me select 2 drives to go raid1, and no option to select more than 2. This is in the raid bios.
its a LSI IBM 320ultra raid onboard raid controller.

is it an unattended install CD by any chance? I have a couple of XP disks that have been "nLite-ed" to automatically install, and even using the F6 option it will act as if it's going to work, but later during the install it won't copy the necessary files.

the F6 diskette needs to have a specific textfile on it - usually the vendor/producer of the RAID controller will have a specific "F6" driver you can download, which will either unload an image to a floppy, or, have files which need to be copied to the diskette.

I would be willing to bet this is the issue at hand... it is a SP3 up to date type unattended..... I did have a spare regular home disk laying around, but it wouldnt have that either... Like I said the files are there, and it is looking in the right spots, it just cant see them for some strange reason.

I had found the harddrives via the right "F6" disk awhile back. The disk has all the right files in the right places as well. it took me a few trys, but I did find the specifically right one.

Yup, that's your problem. Remaster the disk with nLite and remove the unattended install option and it'll load those drivers just fine. I've run into that issue a bunch of times and it drove me wonky until I figured it out. Oh, and also make sure all the files on the floppy are located in the root of the A drive. Might check the oem inf file to see what the paths are, but they should all point to the root.
