Someone here talked about that they are not the same as the MB... they are on an older architecture and the engines are not the same.... but slightly different.

why not buy a cheap desiel 4x4
cheaper to run
just change the engine oil and filters and there is nothing else to change
The engine will run on almost anything that is oily
You won't have to touch it or keep repairing it to keep it running.
And
You can pull anything with it , its tough and powerful
Sure it won't break any speed limits but that means no chance at speeding fines.
and
it will be fine even when you have a million miles on the engine, it will still run as new

I'm pretty sure they are, I haven't heard anything about them not being MBs.

Either way, it's a quality car, and an excellent recommendation, I hadn't thought of it myself.

Because it is exactly everything I do NOT want.
Where the heck does a 4x4 desiel even fit into my list of desires on a car?

If I want cheap, effecient, and boring I will continue to drive the bubble car.

You could also just continue to drive the bubble car and save the money?

Yea I could.. but like I said, for the last 10 years I PROMISED myself I would buy a convertible when I got back to a warmer climate. It is my reward to myself for surviving the great white north for 10 years

*edit*
And Dammit I DESERVE it

Not always true on the first part, look for one without any mods and it will probably not have been beat on. They suck major nads as DDs though. It is truly a track car for the street, nothing more.
