I have come across a set of plans for a 1940's camper-trailer that is a very doable project, BUT it has a wooden frame (I would like to stick as close to original as possible, for both authenticity and cost/ ease of construction reasons).

Does anybody know if wood-frame is still even road-legal here ? I do know back 20 years ago some guys were playing with it with old WW2 jeeps and those were plateable/ insurable--but cant seem to find anything about it in the regulations for trailers (I cant seem to find any regulations at all on homebuilt trailers online).

Does anybody know off the top of their head ?

I don't know about the laws in Canada but I know that a lot of RVs and trailers have wood frames. From watching Top Gear and the guys demolishing various trailers and RVs, I know that every single one that they destroyed had a wood frame.

They all do in the "box".....this is the main structural frame of the thing (springs/wheels mount under it, the living box on top). everything these days is steel/aluminum mostly because at the commercial production level metals are cheaper, more consistant stronger and lighter than wood....

but metal dont have that old-tyme charm

Go down to the licensing office. They always ask what type of trailer and manufacture. They will know if there is any rule against wooden frame trailers. I do believe you need a steel hitch/tongue for safety regs.

Nothing else run a single steel beam down the middle to satisfy that safety rule mentioned above about the hitch?

Got a digital copy of those plans? Would be interesting to look at them..
