I need to upgrade to a larger storage capacity hard drive. I don't feel like re-installing everything, plus I don't have some of my programs on disk.

I would like to ghost everything to a new hard drive. What is the best program to use? Also one person told me that if the hard drive I'm copying from has bad sectors, it will copy that to the new hard drive. I don't know how true that is.

I put a 320 external on this a couple months ago (threads should be available)-------but I ended up just format and re-load, then buy a new computer and do it all again.

Or, if you want something that doesn't use pirated utilities, check out the ultimate boot cd. There are several hard drive cloning utilities on there, try them out and see what you like.

Send me a PM if you want it. I think it's small enough for me to email to you.

My vote is for Casper too. Tried many different programs and Casper came out best.

I don't like Ghost. It did what it said it would do, but it left me with a drive the same size as the original.. Not a good plan when you paid for a larger drive.

I haven't used Ghost for a while but you are right it will not expand the partition you will need another program to do that. If you are using Vista partitions can be resized from disk manager.

I like Acronis... Have used Ghost and drive image... never tried the friendly ghost one yet...

edit: sometimes, you won't be able to ghost the drive if it's got bad sectors, but you can set it in the program to ignore bad sectors and then you'll be able to...

I just used Acronis True Image. There is a free download of it in the download section of CNET. It is a full function program that is good for thirty days. I think I will end up purchasing this one. It has many features and worked real good for cloning my hard drive.
I went from a 60 gig to a 500 gig drive. My old drive was so full I was beginning to have problems when Windows tried to cache it for memory.
