Here's a quick run down on my truck. It's a 83 F250 4x4 408W manual 4speed. The engine was professionally rebuilt and dynoed. Dynoe results 355 hp@4500 and 475 tq@3200. Engine parts include stroker kit with 6.2 rods, hyper pistons, 9.3 cr, GT40P heads, shorty headers, rpm air gap intake, holley avenger 670 cfm carb,DUI distributor, shorty headers. Comp Cam 4x4 extreme 210/218 dur@.050 .477/.493. I'm having an off idle accelleration miss. It has been getting worse. I've changed the wires, didn't help much. The GT40P spark plugs are straighter than the stock heads. I had to get headers make just for these heads. There are a couple plugs close but not touching. I ve swapped out the holley for a Q-jet no change. Ive changed all the plugs to, no change. I'm down to the distributor. The DUI is right against the intake, to the point I have to pull the dis up a little just to get the cap off. I'm thinking I might have moisture inside or it's bent alittle. One other issue is the timing marks. Are they on the balancer or on the timing cover. I've only found one mark on the balancer and nothing to line it up with. I'm wanting to pull the distributor and send it back to DUI to have a longer housing made. This truck was originally computor controled with a carb. Any help appreciated.
Thanks Rick

If their is just a line on the balancer, then there should be a scale that bolts to the timing cover

That's what I thought but can't find it and I'm pretty sure we marked it with a white marker for future reference. Is the tab something that could fall off ? There is a bracket that has an arrow type thing and a tube thing on it.

That was a 351W at one time wasn't it?
The bracket with the pointer is what you use to set the timing. The index should be on the damper or crankshaft pulley. There should be a fairly evident groove cut into the damper, which is used if you want to drop a timing sensor down in the tube on the bracket.
Try cleaning your damper again, and look for the degree marks--they should be there.

If the damper was replaced with a special unit when the stroker kit was done, I dunno what to tell ya, but 351s all use the pointer on the timing cover and degree marks on the damper..

Thanks maryjane. That seems to make more sense. It was a 351W once. There is one big groove in the damper. I'll do some more checking tomorrow. Thanks Again

Let me back up. Talked to my brother a few minutes ago--a Ford "technician".
Was that originally a Duraspark3 ignition?
If so, it may NOT have timing marks, as timing is controlled by a computer. If it's earlier than Duraspark3, then the timing is vacum controlled and it will have timing marks and some sort of electronic pickup sensor.
