Still hunting for a winter/tow car; 9C1's are too scarce and pricey around here so now I'm looking at the 91-96 B-body wagons; preferably a 91-92 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. Would anyone that owns/has owned a Caprice/Custom Cruiser/Roadmaster recommend them?

Would stay factory stock.

My Dad has a 91 Roadmaster Wagon. 305 was the only engine offered that year and I believe 92 also. Reliable ride, but LOTS of plasticy stuff and falling off trim pieces. The dual opening tailgate is a continuation of previous gen full size wagons.

The main reason I dislike the full size GM wagons is that the load floor has a large step up right at the tailgate, which can make it difficult to load some items. 4x8 stock will fit between the wheelwells.

The later years gave you the cast iron head 350 with dual exhaust and minor improvements (like dashboard upgrades).

I would go with a 95-96 model myself. The Olds variant is the scarcest model to find around these parts.

I have a friend with the Roadmaster. It is his second. The first one he ran until it was worn out, and then bought a low mileage used one of the same year.

So far as I know, there is no downside to that car except tight parking spaces.

Personally, I've found Fords to be better built and more reliable. I've owned a Caprice, two Fords and a Mercury wagon.
I DO prefer the GM rear facing third seat to the Ford crosswise third seats, but since I never use them anyway, its kind of a moot point.
My great big '88 Colony Park (Grand Marquis) wagon gets almost the same gas mileage as my '87 Fiero V6 Automatic.

Of course the most desirable wagons are the '67-69 Olds Vista Cruisers, but they are going to cost you.

Well. you get it.
Just remember: No wood = no good.

They are Wicked!! Its funny because as a kid I always wanted one of these wagons and convert it to an Impala SS wagon. I had this dream way before I had ever seen it done. You should get one!!

May have found a Custom Cruiser. Might go take a look Tuesday, but it's being sold at Pick N Pull. Should I bother?

I disagree, WOOD IS GOOD! At one point my wife & I both drove wood-paneled station wagons. An inside joke, but we were "The Wood Paneled Bastards"

As an odd aside, there appear to be about a dozen Crown Vic Ex-Police Specials at a used car lot near me. No use to anyone not in southern NJ, but just saying.
