My wife has gotten the worst virus/spy ware contamination I have ever seen.
it is called "Anti Virus System PRO"
It will not allow me to turn back on system restore it wont let me do file searches for the infected files it wont let me use the help feature it wont let me browse the net
basicly it wont do anything unless i of course "PAY{ for the right to remove the damage it is doing.
I have tried to run system resore in safemode, but this pain in the ass virus turned it off and of course there is no way that i know of to turn it back on in safemode.
Is there any way around this, any way to turn it back on in safe mode?
I am done paying for a new and different tool to remove every single virus she finds. i will format the whole drive before i spend another dime on a program that is recommended online to remove the latest virus / spyware....*sigh* just stay away from yahoo games people. that is where she keeps finding these damn things
If the system hasn't been check pointing then your best bet is to backup her data and do a clean install/recovery. You can use a boot CD to backup files to a USB memory stick.
Then get a good virus and spyware scanner and run it. Popups are where 99% of these come from, you get a popup telling you that your system is infected and that you need to click ok to clean it. Then they start shutting down your system so you have to pay them to fix it. I think it should be a felony myself.
Good luck Jake

Can you download a virus program, like AVG on your computer, then put it on a thumbdrive or network copy to hers ?
someone at work got that exect one a few weeks ago, its a root kit, its not worth the time involved to try and fix all the damage its done, just backup inportant stuff, wipe and reformat.
Use de bugging mode rather than safe mode. Did it change the background by chance? The one my grandpa got just wrecked his system. But I saved it by de buging mode and malewarebytes free anti virus

After you reinstall your OS, make your wife's account a limited one so she can't install software. A common tactic of malware is to send a popup to unsuspecting web browsers that looks like a virus warning window. When the user clicks on it, it starts to install the malware. If she doesn't have sufficient permission to install, then that will stop a lot of those bad sites.
Also be sure to have anti virus software on her PC. I'm pretty sure AVG and some other free AV software would have caught that one.

Execute the ba$$tages. Seriously, make it a reality show, we get to vote which virus author gets executed. Man alive, I'd waste my entire checking account dialing that phone.

The other option, if there is too much data that you don't want to lose, is to make that hard drive a slave and add another clean hard drive with updated virus protection and scan your slave drive. It will remove the virus. Once it is done, simply move the original drive back to its original location and take out your new drive.
Edit....one of my relatives got that virus and like an idiot, payed for it. He was charged $100.00 on his credit card. I had him cancel his credit card to avoid future fraud and I used the above procedure and it worked perfectly.

Get to another computer, download Malwarebytes Anti Malware, burn it to a disc then load it up on the infected computer. OR,,, One of us here can send the program to the infected computers email address.
