This is happening often enough its getting extremely annoying, DVD movies, defective right out of the case. Some times I can get well through a movie, only to have it die out and send the drive constantly spooling up and back down.

I have 4 DVD players here, 3 of which are in computers and new, and usually the disks will fail on all 4. Occasionally one of the players will be able to read a disk the other 3 can't.

Sometimes I encounter the same problem with NetFlixed DVDs, gotta swap em around the players till one can read it.

You aren't the only one. Last few I have bought wouldn't play on any one of my 7 players. Yet the store keeps telling me I have a defective DVD player, and it needs to be replaced. I had one store tell me I needed to upgrade to blu-ray... Now I wait for a torrent or for it to come up on one of the few *pay* sites I use and download it, then burn it to a DVD. Haven't had one of those fail. And they work in all of my players, go figure.

I wonder if the quality is being reduced, deliberately or otherwise to force BluRay. I don't remember this being a problem earlier in DVD production.

Pisses me off to buy a movie, and then be unable to watch it, meanwhile I could have just downloaded and it would have worked fine.
