Well, if I wanted to talk about Fieros I probably wouldn't do so in the "Totally Off Topic" section, now would I?

There's 2 threads for this same topic though. One in General and one in here. True the one in general is more V8 Miata vs. V8 Fiero oriented, but Miatas are that important?

Hmm. Never venture into General, so I didn't see that one.

Gotta love Craigslist. I posted this add a few days ago -

WANTED: Dead Mazda Miata - $1000 (Oklahoma)
Date: 2009-02-07, 11:41PM CST

I want a "bad motor / straight body" 1990-97 Mazda Miata for a father-son "hot rod" project. I will pay up to $1000 depending on condition.

- Engine and Transmission can be gone but everything else must be there

- Can be ugly, but must have relatively straight body (hail dents and the like OK but no twisted-bodied wrecks)

I am in the Tulsa area but I'm willing to travel to get a good deal. Email me at the address listed in the title. Pictures would be helpful. Thanks

So far I've received a couple of decent leads, and about a dozen dead ends (oh, and 1 Nigerian scammer "Hello Dear Seller, I would like to know if this Your Item is still for sales" rofl).

So far I've had a couple of people reply with "I have such and such Miata for sale for $3000 write me back if interested." to which I replied "Your asking price is above my range. I stated very clearly in my ad that I can only pay up to $1000. Since you replied to my ad I'm assuming you're accepting my $1000 offer?" Shockingly none of those people bothered to write me back.

Then I've had a couple write me about obvious wrecks "I've got a Miata with front end and hood damage, I'll keep the motor and take $1000 for the rest" - haven't even bothered to write that guy back yet...

Of course I'm polite, but I'd really like to reply with "Did you even READ the ad?!?!"

I even had a couple who wrote me to point out Miatas they'd found on Craigslist that looked like they would fit my bill. I actually think that's a pretty cool thing to do, although I watch Craigslist regularly and had seen everything they pointed out already...

Just for fun, I deleted my ads and reposted with this added tidbit:

quote

Yes, I'm reposting this. Why?

2 reasons -

1) Please don't write me offering your $3000 Miatas, unless, that is, you're willing to take the $1000 I said I could pay. I'm serious, I willing to pay up to $1000, not starting at $1000.

2) Please don't write me offering your twisted-up wrecks. I need a straight body. No wrecks, really. Especially at the top end of my offering price. Let me put it in perspective. The Blue Book on a 1990 Miata with 100K miles in Excellent Condition is only $1755. So, no, I will not give you $1000 for a wrecked Miata with no engine... Sorry. (now if you were asking, well, much much less, and the damage wasn't that bad, well, then we'd talk...)

No, I doubt it'll do much good, but maybe...

Okflyboy, that's funny. Yup, you'll get some dingleberry that still won't completely read the ad.

Oh, yeah, I'm gonna highjack your thread for a second.....a Z24 was located for me, well actually three of them (all by members here....thanks guys ), and I'm going Monday to look at one of them.

Back to your regularly scheduled "miata madness".

Ha! Changing direction again!

Just when I think I've got it all planned out... The Monster Miata is on hold indefinitely - couldn't pass up FREE:

My mom calls me out of the blue and tells me she's going to buy a new truck in a couple of months and she wants to give me her '02 Z-28 Camaro!!

Hot damn! I'll take a free car. The transmission (T56 6-speed) is iffy, but I can buy a rebuild kit and a book and have a project right there!

And here's a 5.0 Miata I found on youtube (and if you look close I think that's a Fiero the guy's got sitting in his driveway):

So, anyone else think this is just an awesome idea?

hahaha. that is my v8 miata and fiero gt. i used to build v8 monster miata's in the early 90's. funny thing is, i have a v8 miata AND a rare IMSA fiero named "banshee"

In my search for a car, I have very recently driven a LS1 and a 5.0 Miata. They are SCARY FAST!!!!

That said, I believe I am about to buy a supercharged Miata that was custom built by a local guy. Since the upgrades he has put 30k miles on the car and has had zero problems. And it runs like a scaulded dawg!!
