Is it possible for a diving mosquito to reach a velocity which will kill it when it hits the ground? I know they will die when they hit the windshield, but that is due to the mass of the car, not the mosquito.

It depends, is the runway a belt that moves at the same speed as the skeeter?

Ummm..No Mike!! it is due to the combined speeds of the two things If you swipe a mosquito with a rolled-up newspaper at 50 mph...you will splatter it too

I think it has more to do with the velocity of the car than it's mass.
"There are many interesting species of predator and prey sheltered within the broad grassy spaces and massed granite tarns of the Outback. One of these is the Outback Slug. It can leap nearly a quarter mile into the air, but it has never mastered the ability to land. It has no natural predators. It is just stupid."

Kind of like skydiving without a chute, it isn't the fall that hurts, it's that sudden stop at the end of the trip. SPLAT!!!!!!

Yes. That is why they don't do it. See, their ?beak? sticks in the ground and then it's body hits the ground. It will die from a broken neck, not going splat.

What would an African skeeter be doing in Florida???
Vacationing of course, though I suppose it could have been on a missionary trip or, maybe it somehow knew of our current economic conditions (many homeless folks) and was looking for a meal. Then again, it could be it was just looking to stick it's nose (beak) into someone else's business. One never knows why but, it's good that you question such things, I think.

You could easily swallow a whole adult skeeter, even one of those from Afrida, (cross bred skeeters from Africa and Florida) but I seriously doubt you can swallow a whole grown coconut but, I'd pay good money to watch you try.

Are Africanized skeeters Killer Skeeters like Africanized bees are killer bees???? I would hate to see that cause that could kill an African swallow and his coconut.

Though unproven, it appears that they are not killers but sucidal, it seems the commit sucide by diving to reach a velocity which will kill it when it hits the ground. There, we've solved Mike's querry.
