I am sick of carrying these small 20lb tanks for the BBQ and due to a "unscheduled" fillup from our propane company (after we told them we didnt want a delivery, but somehow communication got lost in office) and we have a full tank that we wont be using except for about 1 hr each year on a fireplace.. So is there anyway I can "tap" into it to use for the summer since its already there and paid for?

The BBQ will be about 15ft away from where the fireplace tank is located.

Thanks!

Yes. All you need to do is get a double female hose made up. You can semi fill the portable tank by equalizing the mother tanks pressure. A LPG tank does have a capacity but it is volume then pressure. Many welders who do not own their tanks equalize welding gasses.
There might even be a pre fabricated hose available. ??????

Should be able to just hook into the mother tank and cook directly from it. Same pressure, same gas. Not a problem.

Just make sure that everything is connected properly, and there are no leaks.

Be sure that you hook in before the pressure regulator feeding the gas grill.

Thanks guys, I will have a look at our very limited home depot for supplies lol

Its used currently to feed a propane fireplace in a family room we rarely use.. and we just keep it there for incase a snowstorm or something for extra heat during an outage to save running the generator fulltime.

The propane co(also our oil co) filled it last fall and then said if we didnt want the propane filled, they would need to come remove the tank ($150+ pickup fee) so we had no choice but to keep it.. (nothing like an unexpected $400 bill when I know we would have enough for another year or two in the tank already.. AND they filled it at the time when fuel costs were highest)

So, the pressure in my 1000 gal tank is the same as the 20 lb cylinder? My tank is a couple hundred feet away from the house, and it has a regulator on it. The line goes from that regulator to another regulator on the house. Can I tap into it at the house and run a line to the BBQ, or do I need to tap into it at the tank, before the first regulator?

Just found this link.. http://www.rpm-design.com/jennair/

I had a look and there is a threaded connection between the small tank and the regulator, so I should be able to unhook it there and run a line from the big tank to the regulator..

I own my tank. They are always running their resupply route. They will always stop and ask me if I would like more (outsides sales?). I pick and choose if I want more. I never pick and choose when costs are higher, . I also have a choice of three companies I can fill from.
I bought a 250 gallon (perhaps pounds) tank, more than half full, for $250.00.

Wish it was like that here..

With the big tanks, we need to pay about $80 a year rental on them and never own them outright.. If you own your own tank, they wont fill it. It needs to be "theirs".

Small island and a greedy company has a monopoly on almost everything..
