Long story short. My front axle is out since i was properly lifting my yukon, CV boot was torn and spilled its gutts all over the garage (my those are little bearings!), My 4x4 engage solinoid thing has been dead for 2yrs and cost 150, cv shafts cost 150 each, I'm broke. so can I just complete my lift and be done with it till I have money to fix the 4x4? It's not like i'll need it for god knows how long? I don't offroad and with my tires I have all the pulling power in the rear as having 4 stockers.

I just wonder if the car will be alright if I just cut the boots and pull the bearing packs out of the spindle and leave it. and ofcourse remove the other axle from the transfer case....

BTW I'm in the process of trading the 308 for two bikes so the yukon wont see the road much this year anyways.

thanks for any help. I'm cutting them tomorrow if nobody objects (humm that dont read right to me... SP?)

OBTW. If you look in archive you can find a funny story about when I broke my main axle, hopped out, tossed it in the hatch, then kicked it in 4x4 and drove off under the power of the fronts during rush hour traffic! LOL

I did something similar to my S10, pulled the axle and inner guts out of the cv axles. I just used the inner and outer tripots to keep the fluid in the front axle and keep the front wheel bearings together. Drove it for 6 months like that until I could get the parts to rebuild them. You think your axles are expensive, try finding them for a S10 ZR2, hell the shocks were over $300 each from the dealer and not much better anywhere else. Good thing that truck caught fire and burned up.

I believe the truck needs the front axles to keep the bearings together. At least thats what I have been told. Could be wrong. But the newer dodges have 4wd wheel bearings in the front of 2wd models. At least my 04 does. It has axle splines and everything but its 2wd. So I am not sure if they where just designed that way to cut costs. I would take the spline end of the shaft and assemble it in the wheel bearing. If it has ABS the ring will be on the CV shaft and will throw codes as well.

as above - you usually need the axle going thru the hub, to keep the bearing together

the part in the diff - not so sure about. dont wanna have the axle stub just hanging, because it may find its way out, and wreck stuff. so, open hole. maybe jam a rag? and, you are remove the driveshaft to the diff as well, to keep it from turning at all?

truthfully - I say buy a new boot. fix the boots. maybe just get split boots - they aint the best - but will get you to better days.
