browsing best buy last nite, and they seriously had 10 TV's on display TOTAL, the entire area was bare wall's i asked one of the no-minds working there if they were going out of the TV sales buisness and he said Nawh were waiting for the new models to arrive WTF, ? how can you sell all of every brand but like 1 LG, and a few higher end pioneer's ? sounds to me like there hurtn for cash or somthign
just seems odd that an electronics store such as that would not have any stock on probibly one of there top 5 selling major items
I'd bet that many stores are not ordering a large stock of anything at the moment, since sales are down. Especially electronics, which are outdated 6 months after they're made and have to be marked down. Most stores probably don't want to have a lot of cash tied up in depreciating assets that aren't moving quickly.

I go on line www.bestbuy.com to search out items I want. I've ordered it on line for pickup at the store. When my free TV died, I found several replacement models on their site, and printed out the list. I went to the store to compare. I still don't know why the two I found, almost identical were $200 difference in price. I went back home, ordered it on line for store pickup and the "cheaper one" was even less expensive when ordered on line.
With the economy depressed, I suspect that the stores are keeping a low inventory as that is money on the books.
When I got my laptop computer, I did lots of checking and the model I wanted ( an inexpensive Toshiba) I couldn't find on the shelves. I took my print out and showed it to the roboclerk to show him that it was listed in their inventory and he went into the back and found it. They only had $800-2400 models on the floor, mine was $425 and works well for what I want it to do.

i just got back from the local bestbuy, the walls looked like you described, but they had stock guys wheeling out carts of tv's, and one guy was hanging a new one on the wall.... sounds like they mighta had a shipping issue from their warehouse or something.

semi-insider knowledge. Mfg's are pulling back from BestBuy ever since BB decided to put / push their own brand "Insignia" in front of other mfg's. Nothing wrong with Insignia, it's made by Lg, but when BB is demanding lower prices than what you offer on your own website and they don't promote you at all in store.. There's a bit of a backlash.

In the long run it only helps BB since more of their brand will be sold.

Most people looking to buy new tvs, did it for the superbowl. Now everyones hanging onto their money till at least tax refunds or stimulus checks get in. No one in any business right now is anxious to load up their shelves with stock no ones buying. KMart shelves are pretty bare too after Christmas.

The kid had it partly right. This is transition time. Sony 4XXX models to 5XXX models, for instance. Most of the 4XXX series are gone, sold through. The 5XXX's haven't come in yet. Also Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba, Sharp....
I work at an independent and, while our walls aren't bare, we are also a little light. At least a third of our floor models are on Clearance. Come back in a month or so to see the new models.

Just a thought, but perhaps with the liquidation of Circuit City's stock, selling television sets at full price might be something that retailers might avoid for a bit.
