My daily beater 85 base coupe is getting to the point of needing an overhaul (suspension and clutch hydraulics) so I got a new commuter, a bright blue off-lease 05 Michigan State Police car with 87k miles on it. $4000.12 including T-T-L.
This seems like a better choice for Detroit's potholes and general urban warfare than my current Fiero.
I test drove it tonight over in Lansing and its being delivered Sunday.
Currently, no. I've never had one that new either, nor the police package, but I absolutely LOVE them! They ride so smooth and have so much space inside. And you could fit like three bodies in the trunk...... not that you would need that
They are great dependable cars that have a good amount of oomph to them too!

As a rule, police vehicles are well maintained. Local Columbus ones are usually kept 200K miles. When I first got into stock car racing, we used to buy X patrol cars as a starting point. They had best motor, trans, rear end, suspension and brakes. Around here the police auctions are full of people buying them for cabs. One small town close to me just traded in their only police car for a new one. It was a 67 Biscayne. They also got a new city truck....old one was a 56 Ford with like 15K on it.

Did you buy through the MIBid auctions? I always look through the state surplus auctions and would like to buy a used State police car one of these days.
I learned how to work on cars with old police cars. My dad used to buy them at auction when I was a little kid and fix them up and sell 'em.
The FBI back in the 80s bought 200 Buick Gran National turbo cars for undercover I wonder what happened to them since there all worth more now than new.
a buddy of mine has a Marauder, what a nice highway car. another guy locally has one that is supercharged and runs 10's with full interior and roll bar. that car is a beast. my wife has been looking to get one as her toy someday
my buddy and me almost bought 2 P7 camaros base model as hell but they would scream 500WHP they use them on the turnpike around here for high speed persuits they only had like 30k on them and had a ood price on them both but i ended up with a firebird and he ended up loosing his licence and it also turns out insurance on one of them is through the roof.
I had a '98 P71, it was a good car. I remember it would give kind of average acceleration from 0-40 mph, but then fly from 40-70 mph. Nice combination of speed, performance and comfort. I've been to quite a few auctions where they've been sold, I think you got yours at a pretty good price.

Didn't get it through MIBid. The state leases some of their cars and when they come off lease they get auctioned to the dealer I bought from.

I got the transmission in my Thunderbird from Reinhart Automotive. Dennis has built some beasts over the years. The best source I've found for good plug and play Ford Performance stuff is Blue Oval Chips. http://www.blueovalchips.com/ Lonnie is sharp when it comes to tuning.

I just bought a '05 with i guess 70,000 miles on it (129,000 kms) and will pick it up Friday if all goes well. I needed something with more room and am on a budget as well as its being a P71 . The inside needs a lot of cleaning and I should get it painted as some of the paint is chipping on it. Its a big car with a great ride and a huge trunk. I saw the MSP cars on my search, they are decent looking cars. Have fun with your new toy, Kevin

Here it is; not as good in the snow as the Fiero, but helluva lot better ride on Detroit potholes that are more than 2" deep. Its still on the summer-issue Goodyear RS-A tires rather than the winter-issue Ultra Grips or Winterforces, so that doesn't help.
Thanks for the support so far!
