For those that haven't seen this yet. I work at RadioShack, these mini laptops have been selling well at the full price,(499) now on sale for $99 !! Guess how fast there flying off the shelves now.

What they've done is bundle an internal aircard and a AT&T two year plan together. Not bad, The external cards, when not on sale go for 99 alone. With this deal, you get the card & a ACER mini laptop at the same price.

The folowing is from their website:

The Acer Aspire netbook comes with integrated 3G technology and is being offered by RadioShack with a two-year AT&T DataConnect agreement.

Fort Worth, TX — Starting Dec. 14, RadioShack Corporation becomes the first major U.S. retailer to offer an ultra-lightweight, mobile netbook Internet device with integrated 3G wireless technology. Netbooks, designed to fulfill people’s growing needs for mobile access to Internet applications, are widely expected to be a hot growth area for the computer industry. The unique combination of technologies created for this launch to help people stay connected enhances RadioShack’s reputation for offering innovative solutions at affordable prices.

The Acer Aspire one netbook is priced at $99.99 for customers who sign up for a qualifying two-year AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband service agreement with plans starting at $60 a month. Once activated, this netbook allows people to easily access the Internet anywhere within AT&T’s wireless network. The offer is available in 4,400 RadioShack company-operated stores through Dec. 24. Prices may vary outside the continental U.S. See stores or visit http://www.RadioShack.com for complete offer details. “Many people internationally are already enjoying the portability, on-the-go connectivity and affordability of this emerging new technology,” said Peter Whitsett, RadioShack’s executive vice president - merchandising. “We are proud to introduce this concept in the U.S. by offering a netbook with integrated 3G functionality in addition to full Wi-Fi capability.

“RadioShack is offering this innovative technology solution at a very attractive price through our collaboration with Acer and AT&T,” he continued. “Helping people stay connected during these challenging economic times illustrates our continued commitment to meeting their personal technology needs affordably.”

The lightweight, 2.44-pound netbook includes 1GB memory, 160GB hard drive, built-in memory card readers and Windows XP software that supports the portable connectivity needs of commuters, students, travellers and mobile professionals. This allows everyone to keep in touch via email, participate in social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter, use the built-in Web cam and crystal-clear LCD screen for video conferencing with family, friends and business associates, conduct online research, and a host of other online functions.

The Acer Aspire one 3G netbook comes equipped with the following features:

– Weighs 2.44 pounds

– Ultra-compact size measuring 9.8″ x 6.7″ x 1.1″ (W x D x H)

– Stylish piano-black finish

– Built-in 3G capability

– 802.11b/g wireless (Wi-Fi)

– 8.9-inch LCD screen

– Built-in Web cam

– IntelВ® Atom(TM) processor

– Windows XPВ® Home

– 1GB memory

– 160GB hard drive

– Built-in memory card readers (dedicated SD and 5-in-1)

I've been looking for a mini to put in the race car for data aquisition.

To be honest, I'd be more interested in it at $499 than for $99 and the two year contract.

If I pay the $99 and sign the contract, it doesn't even have a phone. AT&T service in my area sucks or is non-existent. $60/mo for 2 years is over $1400 and I might use the aircard feature 4 or 5 times a year. Nowhere near worth it to me.

PS: I just saw that same laptop at Wally World last night for $399.

If you have to get service, its really not 99 bucks.

I wonder when the chinese importers will have these things for 200, unlocked.

Yes, it's 99 with 2 year sign up with AT&T. Without the sign up, it's 499.99 for the 1st one listed.

So, yes, it is 99 dollars , if you want that model and you want the cellular internet service.

We even had people come in and upgrade there older air cards, get this computer, and walk away happy. There getting a 499 computer for 99, and paying the same amount a month for service that they were.

I guess the simple way to word it would be, for those that want cellular service w/ this laptop, the price will be 99.

For those that don't, then buy the other model for 349.

For those that just want to bi#ch about it, then don't buy it.

About the unlocked units, the design uses a simm chip inserted inside, under the battery.

As mentioned above its really 1400$. The cost of the contract must be factored in if you want to be fair. I don't care if you upgraded your exiting phone or whatever, the contract is still part of the TCO. You sound like a typical salesman trying to scam someone ( don't take that personally.. its a joke )

I figured it used sim cards, which is good. The place in china i was thinking of sells Iphone clones ( unlocked of course ) for 200 bucks. Figured shouldn't be long until they start redirecting some of the units manufactured over there under contract for 'wholesale distribution'.

I see what your saying, of course, over two years, any air card service is going to cost 1400 bucks.

As a sales person, your not going to say that. Your going to be told, this service is 60 per month for two years.

If the sale person told me about the new Fiero I bought in 87 in that way you are spelling out, it would have gone something like this.

In the 100,000 miles of driving this new Fiero, well, that's going to cost you an extra 16,666 in fuel , so the total cost of your Fiero will be , 33,332 , oh wait, you need to figure in the interest rate on the loan your going to need, that's another 1,320, so if you'll hand over 34,652 , I'll give you the keys....

Oh wait, darn, I forgot about taxes & tags, lets see county & state.....

Obviously, a stupid example, but that is why we don't state the total cost, as not one would buy anything.

Not scamming , just making a living. I am a good sales person, but I don't try to rip people off.

There are so many ways I could sell more to people, but if they don't need it, I tell them. My customers trust me for this.

I was the number one sales person in total sales in all of south west Florida last year & a few other years. Over the past 10 years, I've been in the top 4 in sales every year.

That's not beating Wally World. The 160GB Acer One there is $399. The 120GB Acer One is $348. I know this because it's what I've been hinting at for the wife to get me for Christmas.

I picked up the HP2133 mini for 299 on Amazon in Oct. It was the base model with linux and a 4G SSD hard drive.

It now has xp, 2g ram, and 32g SSD hard drive. I love its overall size and its aluminum exterior... now I have to redo my laptop stand for the car...
