I am in the market for a 98 - newer Beetle for my daughters. Has to be an automatic. Anyone in Fieroland have one they are willing to part with, or prehaps you might have a lead on one.
Let me know.
Cheers!

run away......The Beetle is the VW lemon of all the VW's. Many electrical issues and very hard to drive for the inexperienced. The dashboard is too big and the blind spots are horrible. You are better off getting a new Rabbit 2.5 Dave

Really? Maybe I need to read up on them. They both (twins) had their hearts set on a Beetle, having a huge blind spot is a little concerning for me though. They are both brand new drivers.
What do the Rabbits go for?

A friend of mine has a Turbo S Beetle, and he's had to have it in for electrical service. He loves the car, though. I don't know if it's been any recurring problems or not.
humm...thats funny my daughter has a 2000 beetle and has NEVER had a problem with it..had a new timing belt and water pump put on as scheduled maintance requires but thats it,,never a wrench one has been put on it other than that...its like all brands of cars, some good, some bad i think. but hers has never let her down one time.. and they also get gas mileage... and also could you tell me where the blind spots are?? seems to me when i drive the beetle its very open with more view than i like..
I see them everyday. The 2.0 ones are pretty decent, but they do have issues. Some come in for the weirest stuff and others for routine maintenance. Drive one before you let your kid drive it. If you can parallel park it, I'll be surprised. The convertibles have a horrible blind spot that even the side mirrors don't help. It is very hard to judge the front because you can't see it. The 1.8t cars have reoccuring ignition coil issues, engine sludging issues, oil pump issues, camshaft chain tensioner issues, turbo issues. The TDI models are high maintenance and need to have the intake removed and cleaned every 40-60k. Otherwise, not bad. Dave

glad we have never had any of those problem, ours is not a convertible. so i cant say anything about them but my 16 yr old daughter just took her driveing test in her beetle and parallel parked, backed in a parking space, pulled in a parking space, without any troubles at all. i guess it takes driveing time to get use to about any car or truck. heck i get out of my road tractor and get in my ford pickup and start looking for gears and the clutch.lol... hey if you work on them every day you might want to move here i just live 20 miles from the new VW plant in chatt. tn and the wages their going to pay certified VW mechanics is unreal..but really we have never had any problems at all with our beetle its the most dependable car i ever seen, might fall apart tommorrow but so far you couldnt ask for a better running little car, although im not a big fan of the looks of any VW. just not my style
