Straight to the point...
I've been lusting after a Challenger ever since I saw the concept car on the web.

If Chrysler is purchased by another entity, will the purchasing entity be required to honor any warranty that was sold along with the car?
What about if they go Chapter 11? Are they still required to honor warranties?

Of course I understand that if Chrysler goes "toes up", outright, all bets are off.

Anyone?

That's hard to say Radar. The only similar thing I can recall, is when Chrysler bought American Motors. Chrysler did honor warranties for a set period of time--on the AMC vehicles that were produced prior to that buyout. Of course, back then, they didn't have the long timeline drive train warranties we see today. .

When New Holland bought Ford's tractor and farm equipment divisions--New Holland honored Ford's warranties as well, but since Ford itself was still in business, New Holland may have just 3rd partied the bill back to FoMoCo.

It would be negotiated if a buyout happens. I don't know about chapter 11. I'm thinking you would probably face a shortened warranty if there was a buyout. You should wait until something happens or buy an extended warranty through a third party.

The Challengers are very nice looking. I saw a white one in Gulf Shores AL a couple weeks ago. It was the R/T and had the optional fender stripes. Too bad they weigh 2 tons though. Coulda been a contender. My 02 ram air Trans am only weighs 3400 lbs. I'd drive it though

I will go out on a limb and say yes on the warranty

Don't count on it for cars or anything else. Also it could vary by state depending on the product involved.

That's the one.

Thanks, everyone, for their input.
This is not a "gotta have" by any stretch, BTW.
I'm just now beginning my research. I have to sell some other stuff before I do anything.

Of course, I'm still more than a little bit gun shy about buying anything.
Being "chickensh!t" has served me well, up to this point.

Call me crazy....I am.
As maryjane said, hard to say. However, what is a warranty ? Just another insurance policy. Mortgages are packaged up and sold. Insurance policies are also umbrella insured (AIG). Warranty work is cool, if you need it. Most people don't. You do have cases of bad connecting rods causing fires but, no one went broke.
A smart man would buy up the warranties, including rights to parts (keepein parts suppliers in business), and make a killing.
Buy up the warranties is the wrong term. For a hamburger on Tuesday, he would honor it.
I fail to understand why everyone is afraid of the new frontier, . I am excited 'cept the gubment keeps interfearing. Interfering spelled FEAR purposely.
