I found a crx for cheap, im thinking of buying it as a beater car. A couple of my friends have them with the 1.5L motors and they get 40-50 mpg in the city. Im gonna get this one for possibly as low as $600 but his asking price is 900. Going to look at it on thursday in the wee hours of the AM.
Guy says the body and frame are cherry, but it has a body kit on the rear and ugly altezza taillights. I already talked to my friend, he has OEM ones to replace it and will cost me nothing.
What do you think overall. opinions of the crx, stuff to look out for, etc. Its either this or spend 500 bucks on a wrangler and then god knows how much to get it streetworthy (prolly like $2000)
Thanks guys.

I always liked 'em. Not as much as the Fiero (of course) but I learned how to drive stick in one years ago, and it was a fun little car. I like how the back just ENDS...

What bad can be said about old hondas? They are great cars, they run forever, and get great gas mileage.
Things to watch out for; Timing belt. If it breaks it will take the motor with it. So ask when it was last changed, they should be done around every 100k miles. CV boots. These are always bad a click like crazy. But all in all a cheap and somewhat easy repair. Brake Rotors. Honda has had a lot of problems with warping brake rotors. On the Accord they are somewhat difficult to replace (you have to take off the hub). Clutch. See how solid the clutch is, if its slipping you could be in for a few hundred dollar repair.
But for $600, go for it.
Good Luck

Funny you say that, Im going to be taking it to Rhode Island with me :P
Im buying it partially because I dont wanna drive my fiero in the snow, partially because I want better gas mileage, and partially because I want more room for my trip to RI in january.

As long as you de-rice it with the OEM tailights, it seems like a sensible car to own. Personally, I couldn't stand it when I drove one, mostly because the back end wanted to fly away when I was on the freeway and it had 175s in the back. Just DONT try to drive it an any way that could possibly be described as "fast", not even "quickly".
So I went to look at it, and this thing was a total basket case, DID NOT BUY.
aside from the stuff mentioned before, the hood had no latch to it, the clutch wasnt adjusted properly and therefore destroyed, there was no trim on the doors at all, the sideskirts were drywall screwed to the body, the rear aftermarket bumper wasnt wide enough for the car, the ugly lights, the running lights stayed on all the tiem b/c there was no headlight switch, there was no doorhandle on the drivers side, the passenger side door wouldnt lock and could not be opened from the inside, the front fenders were plastic, and sanded with like 120 grit paper prior to being spray bombed black, when the rest of the car is red. the rockers were rusty which is why the side skirts were put on, one of the tires in the rear you could see cords it was so worn, The interior was OK at best, but it needed new seats, new door panels, and most of the trim pieces were hanging b/c the clips and screwholes were so broken they wouldnt stay in place.
The motor also had the multiport injection when it should have dual injection, very confusing I dont know how it was running that way, but it did seem to run ok, except when I checked the oil and there wasnt any on the dipstick. The only good parts of the vehicle were the glass. all the normal pieces that break were in tact, except the windshield, that was cracked to bejesus. I offered the guy $200 which he imediately declined.
But I did on the way home, stop to look at an 87 Audi Coupe GT. $700 body is absolutely perfect, guy says that it was garage kept most of its life, original owner, its the straight 5 with a 5spd. White with white wheels. Has some minor electrical issues with the power windows, the switches are bad. one only puts the windows up and one only puts the windows down, just need new ones. Anyways, prolly gonna get that. It drove very nice, and has 140k miles. I may be able to pick it up for like $500. IF soemthing happens to the motor, I can afford to buy one from a junkyard and rebuild it for that price. Or maybe swap a jetta motor into it or something of the sorts.
Anyways. yeah. Anyone have carfax?

Sorry the CRX didn't work out. They're cool cars. I don't understand the "don't drive it quickly" advice. They used to raise hell in SCCA, a while back.
They are even less common than Fieros, around here. Can't remember the last time I saw one that wasn't beat down. (And they don't even rust that badly, here.)

For $500, you'd be very lucky to find a Wrangler that was capable of moving under its own power. Nevermind what it looked like.
Audi 5cyl engines last forever if they are taken care of and from what I read are good engines.
I have a 2008 VW rabbit with a 2.5L 5cyl and its a quick little car. I think i found my car calling in these cars I love em. One of these days when money isn't an option I want to build a boosted Vr6 motor with it straight piped from the turbo. Them engines sound so cool.

I ended up picking up the Audi. It has the 2.2L 5 cylinder. The original service schedule is in it with service from the dealership on schedule all the way up through 115k miles, thats all the further the book goes and the car has 140 on it, so I know it has been taken care of very well. It runs well, I drove it, and I picked it up for $700. If there is one thing that I would say I am best at with cars, Its tracking down electrical issues, so a pre 94 Audi is an acceptable car for me.
Now I offically have the most random car collection. wow, there is a hugeass grasshopper on my screen. My 88 Fiero, my 73 charger, and NOW my 87 Coupe GT. I guess I just like 2 door cars with no cupholders.

Ha!
Try this 88 Mustang GT (in the garage in 500 pieces), 84 Fiero, 96 Explorer, 03 Altima and 04 Expedition. I'm going to have to sell a couple before the neighbors think I'm running a used car lot.
Good luck with the Audi. I had to google it but reminds me of a delorean/dodge shelby.
