Laptop is a Compaq Evo n1020v,

it has no usb, which I need as its for my tuning program for my car and I use USB internet. The computer beeps when its plugged in but nothing happens, and nothing gets power through it when I plug it them into it. Ive tried it on other computers and its worked.

Its 4 ports, USB 2.0 Card Bus PCMCIA Card, It has NO numbers or anything to show a brand. Idk if need PCMCIA drivers or USB drivers.

Any ideas?

I have a similar issue. My laptop only has usb 1 ports, so I added one of those cards with 4 usb 2.0 ports. It says its working and when I plug in a usb device I don't get the message saying something like "it would work faster if you plugged it into usb 2". but the speeds are still really slow, so I think what it comes down to is the motherboard probably doesn't have the ability to keep up.

You may have the same problem even if you get the card working.

More than likely you need a driver for the card. There is no info on the card itself?

This is the card I have.

Notice the small round power connect in the center which plugs into the PS2 port on the laptop (external keyboard/mouse connector for power), it will power usb devices that requirer extra power to them. PCMCIA technology is 16bit vs PCCard is 32bit so there is the speed issue.

What OS and service pack level are you running?
