The reed valves are shot in your motor. That is why it wont run under load.I had this same problem with my 750 ss.I did this exact same engine swap with my 750 because the 650 engine is easier and cheaper to get parts for.The 750 engine was trouble proned for many years before Kawasaki figured it out.The 650 is pretty much trouble free and is equal in h.p. rating.Plus it will wind up a little higher without shredding the rod bearings.Thats a pretty decent boat you got there when you get the bugs worked out youll love it.I wish I had never sold mine the sea doo I have now does not even hold a candle to the Kaw.Good luck and have fun with it.

Well I've got 130 and 140 PSI on the cyls. It runs great as long as you are pouring fuel in the carb. Ive spent all day today messing with the carb.

The pop off pressure seems to be like 50PSI, which seems WAY high to me. I modified another spring to lower it to like 10-12PSI, at least then it was passing fuel, but I had fuel pouring out the high speed port as well. I finally put everything back together stock, and without the little spring disk (middle item in the below pic) and messed with it. It will again fun fine with fuel added, but I think the only time it runs other than that is just from pooled fuel in the intake. There was fuel in the carb when I took it apart though, so it must be passing some.

The middle disk in there is not indicated in any diagram I have found, when installed, it pushes the diaphram into the float arm to open the float, I assumed this opened the needle, then when the carb filled, the diaphram pushed away closing the needle, to regulate the fuel pressure. This might be wrong. there are wear marks in the carb cover that line up with the disk, and the disk fits the cover perfectly, and it has a vent hole in the middle that lines up with the cover vent. But I found the disk laying under the exhaust, but the whole ski has obviously been messed with by someone with no clue, so who knows.

So Im almost positive its just a carb issue, but I have no idea what.

Ohh!

Heck all I really need is to know what is supposed to go where, and if the pop off pressure is right, this one is recently rebuilt and clean as a ... well something really clean. but a carb would be awesome. This is a Keihin CDK carb 28mm I believe.

Let me know. I was thinking about taking it to a small engine shop tomorrow, maybe I'll wait till I hear back.

You rock. Thats actually the next generation carb, from what I understand, but if it fits thats all that matters, and I think the bolt spacing is rather universal.

I called around today, found a place who said they could work on it, took it out there and got a slack jawed "Well I dont work on dem japaneese engines"

Hello dumbass, chances are, the carb on your "american" engines, probably made in Japan. Not to mention, its a 2 stroke carb, they all work on the same principles.

Then he starts in on how if he were in my situation, he wouldnt even have messed with it. Yea, I should have just tossed a $1600 ski because it wasnt worth the afternoon it took me to clean it up, and this little carb fiasco. So yea, I left there.

Went someplace else around here that works on mower and small engines. Unfortunately the guy didnt know much more than how to put a rebuild kit in, and replace broken parts. What I need is a carb expert who can tell me what the pop off pressure is supposed to be, test it, and adjust. Thats about the only thing it can be. We screwed with the diapram and springy deal some more, and I actually got it running pretty good. Shut it off and that was the end of it running good.

So, yea, I PM'ed you reddog, at this point it will just be much easier to go with a new carb. Thanks a ton.

I guess not.

Anyone else have any advice on how to adjust this thing? It still pretty much either doesnt pass anything, or floods the engine.
