DALLAS - Police didn't have to go far to find $400,000 worth of cocaine — it was in an undercover car they'd been driving for two months.

An officer cleaning the car at a patrol station Wednesday discovered the nearly 50 pounds of cocaine carefully hidden in hydraulically controlled compartments.

"These compartments have recently been more and more popular with drug operations," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, commander of the narcotics division.

Dallas police put the two-door 2004 black Infiniti into police service on May 7 after seizing it at a drug house. It had been found at a drug house earlier this year along with a 1999 Honda.

Bernal said the narcotics division searched both vehicles and found nothing unusual after the seizure. The Honda was sold at auction.

Bernal said police plan to contact the person who bought the Honda to find out if drugs are hidden in that car, too. And, they are also trying to find out who owned the cocaine they have been secretly driving around with.

a car was found outside a drug house, searched and nobody found this? Nobody used ohhhhhhhh I don't know maybe those drug dogs, when searching for drugs? something isn't right about this, but we will probably never know.

These are Dallas cops after all, wouldn't surprise me if they never even looked for the drugs or they belong to one of the Dallas cops

Well, since the car belongs to the Dallas police... so do the drugs. "Ignorance is no excuse" applies to everyone equally, does it not ?

just think for a moment, I'm sure the dealer has had someone watching the police auctions for that car to come up for sale. AND think of this! Could you imagine the look on the dealers face if he saw the car parked in the police lot being used as undercover?? Well hope they busted a few druggies while being in a known dealers car! WEIRD!

I found a small amount of cocaine in a Ford Ranger I bought from a tow yard that was doing police impounds. I also found letters in the same truck that his girlfriend sent him when he was in jail on a pervious charge. The coke and letters was hidden inside the doors under the interior panels. I not being a druggie, promptly through everything away.

That story is a little off. There $800k worth of cocaine in that car.
