Seriously, what the f--- is wrong with companies these days? Since when is it OK to be rude to your customers and sell crap mislabeled as "quality products"?
Let me give you a few examples of what I've been wasting my time on lately:
1 ) Two months ago, I bought an LCD screen for my PDA on eBay. The auction stated it was "brand new and never used". When I received it, it was obviously used. The screen was scratched and it had usage marks all over. I returned it and they sent me a new one (which I received today). You guessed it, the screen I received today was used too. On top of that, when I tried it in my PDA, the screen turned out to be defective too.
2) Last year I bought very expensive Corsair memory ($120) for my computer. It failed in a few months. The replacement memory I got failed on me yesterday. I've got another similar computer running on $10 memory sticks without a single problem, BTW.
3) Last week, the power supply of my one year old Acer monitor died on me.
4) Last year I also bought a 500GB Maxtor HD. It failed on me within weeks. I RMA'd it and received another HD from Seagate (they bought Maxtor) which was DOA. I again RMA'd it and received another 500GB which failed within a few months. Again I RMA'd it and this time they gave me a 750GB Seagate. It failed on me two days ago. Mind you, I have several Western Digital hard drives that are working without a hitch. It's only the Maxtor/Seagate drives that are failing.
5) In december of last year, I bought a Linksys wireless security camera, which was DOA. I had to send it back to Linksys and received a replacement camera after about a month. It turns out this particular model has a problem when used for outdoor shots. Because it's overly sensitive to IR, when you use it outdoor the image is purple. When I contacted Linksys about this and told them they can't call a camera that will display everyhting in purple a "color camera", their answer was (I kid you not) "well, purple is a color, isn't it?". I visited Linksys' forum and apparently all owners of this particular camera are complaining about this but Linksys does not want to address the problem. When I actually posted this message (verbatim) "I think it's pretty stupid Linksys is selling a color camera that can only display the color purple", the message was deleted from the forum and I got banned (no, seriously). I'm still trying to get this resolved but whenever I call Linksys they are incredibly rude and basically tell me to f--- off with my petty problems.
6) A few months ago, I bought a new (and quite expensive I might add) Pioneer A/V Receiver for my home theater system. This thing has an auto setup. You put a microphone in the listener's position, press a few buttons, wait about 15 minutes while the receiver does its thing and then everything should be set up. I've done that about 10 times now and every time the result is just plain awful. When listening to music, it sounds like your listening to an AM radio. When watching movies, background music can hardly be heard, explosions sound like popping corks and the surround is lacking all depth. I've been trying to find out if this receiver is actually defective or not. Pioneer is less than helpful and simply tells me to return the receiver to the dealer - which in turn will send it to Pioneer and it will be at least 6 weeks before I get the receiver back - repaired or not.
7) About 5 months ago I bought an Epson Inkjet printer which died within a few weeks of use. It took almost 2 months before I was able to get a replacement printer.
8) Last year I bought a new Fujifilm F31fd compact camera, because it was supposedly the best compact at that time. For some reason, 4 out of 5 pictures I took with this camera (and so far I've taken about 3000 pictures with it) were either underexposed, overexposed, out-of-focus or just incredibly grainy. I always blamed that on my lack of knowledge operating this camera. I never really took the trouble reading the manual. But after some extensive testing with the help of other users, it appears that the camera is actually defective. What a surprise...
9) Last month, I bought a Sitecom external HDD enclosure. When I inserted an old HD I had, the HD immediately failed. I tried a second HD and it failed too. Turned out the enclosure was defective and had a short, destroying the electronics of any HD inserted.
10) Around the same time, I bought a Sitecom network printer server. The thing simply doesn't work. No matter how I tried, it would not work. Turns out that if you use its software on a machine where Windows loads a lot of programs during boot, it won't work. I actually had to write my own program for it to get it to work.
11) Last month, I bought an Asus motherboard for a new computer for my wife. The motherboard was DOA. Fortunately the store replaced it for me the same day.
You know, I could go on and on because there's still much, much more. But it's time to make dinner.
