Seriously, what the f--- is wrong with companies these days? Since when is it OK to be rude to your customers and sell crap mislabeled as "quality products"?

Let me give you a few examples of what I've been wasting my time on lately:

1 ) Two months ago, I bought an LCD screen for my PDA on eBay. The auction stated it was "brand new and never used". When I received it, it was obviously used. The screen was scratched and it had usage marks all over. I returned it and they sent me a new one (which I received today). You guessed it, the screen I received today was used too. On top of that, when I tried it in my PDA, the screen turned out to be defective too.

2) Last year I bought very expensive Corsair memory ($120) for my computer. It failed in a few months. The replacement memory I got failed on me yesterday. I've got another similar computer running on $10 memory sticks without a single problem, BTW.

3) Last week, the power supply of my one year old Acer monitor died on me.

4) Last year I also bought a 500GB Maxtor HD. It failed on me within weeks. I RMA'd it and received another HD from Seagate (they bought Maxtor) which was DOA. I again RMA'd it and received another 500GB which failed within a few months. Again I RMA'd it and this time they gave me a 750GB Seagate. It failed on me two days ago. Mind you, I have several Western Digital hard drives that are working without a hitch. It's only the Maxtor/Seagate drives that are failing.

5) In december of last year, I bought a Linksys wireless security camera, which was DOA. I had to send it back to Linksys and received a replacement camera after about a month. It turns out this particular model has a problem when used for outdoor shots. Because it's overly sensitive to IR, when you use it outdoor the image is purple. When I contacted Linksys about this and told them they can't call a camera that will display everyhting in purple a "color camera", their answer was (I kid you not) "well, purple is a color, isn't it?". I visited Linksys' forum and apparently all owners of this particular camera are complaining about this but Linksys does not want to address the problem. When I actually posted this message (verbatim) "I think it's pretty stupid Linksys is selling a color camera that can only display the color purple", the message was deleted from the forum and I got banned (no, seriously). I'm still trying to get this resolved but whenever I call Linksys they are incredibly rude and basically tell me to f--- off with my petty problems.

6) A few months ago, I bought a new (and quite expensive I might add) Pioneer A/V Receiver for my home theater system. This thing has an auto setup. You put a microphone in the listener's position, press a few buttons, wait about 15 minutes while the receiver does its thing and then everything should be set up. I've done that about 10 times now and every time the result is just plain awful. When listening to music, it sounds like your listening to an AM radio. When watching movies, background music can hardly be heard, explosions sound like popping corks and the surround is lacking all depth. I've been trying to find out if this receiver is actually defective or not. Pioneer is less than helpful and simply tells me to return the receiver to the dealer - which in turn will send it to Pioneer and it will be at least 6 weeks before I get the receiver back - repaired or not.

7) About 5 months ago I bought an Epson Inkjet printer which died within a few weeks of use. It took almost 2 months before I was able to get a replacement printer.

8) Last year I bought a new Fujifilm F31fd compact camera, because it was supposedly the best compact at that time. For some reason, 4 out of 5 pictures I took with this camera (and so far I've taken about 3000 pictures with it) were either underexposed, overexposed, out-of-focus or just incredibly grainy. I always blamed that on my lack of knowledge operating this camera. I never really took the trouble reading the manual. But after some extensive testing with the help of other users, it appears that the camera is actually defective. What a surprise...

9) Last month, I bought a Sitecom external HDD enclosure. When I inserted an old HD I had, the HD immediately failed. I tried a second HD and it failed too. Turned out the enclosure was defective and had a short, destroying the electronics of any HD inserted.

10) Around the same time, I bought a Sitecom network printer server. The thing simply doesn't work. No matter how I tried, it would not work. Turns out that if you use its software on a machine where Windows loads a lot of programs during boot, it won't work. I actually had to write my own program for it to get it to work.

11) Last month, I bought an Asus motherboard for a new computer for my wife. The motherboard was DOA. Fortunately the store replaced it for me the same day.

You know, I could go on and on because there's still much, much more. But it's time to make dinner.

About the hard drives, I deal with Seagate, and so far their Barracuda line is great for me, one of the most stable hard drives i ever used. Currently have a Seagate Barracuda 500gb SATA in my computer, not bad at all, and decent speed. But also mind you I keep it in a hard drive cooler, might have something to do with it.

About Linksys, we all know linksys is retarded! I would much rather deal with D-Link

Word.

I've got a cheapy Trendnet router I bought when CompUSA was going out of business. I had to call Trendnet tech support as I could not get it setup correctly on my own. Their tech support (despite obviously being from, shall we say, out of the CONUS) was top notch.

I bought a 3.5" external HDD enclosure on eBay a few months ago, and as soon as I plugged it in, it caught fire. I've never disassembled an electrical component so fast in my life

Oops. Strike one. I need to be careful or I will need to ban myself, send myself a few nasty emails in response, then suck up to myself to get back on.

I hear yah

honestly everything breaks down, doesnt work, and they wont take the stuff back or fix it EVEN if you bought the extended warranty. Its always the users fault and they rarely take responsibility.

Whats even worse is that theres never any punishment for the company. If they dont deliver on their promise its just "ok" and you have to deal with it. But if you cant pay your bills or whatever, then they audit you or whatever and you're screwed. The little guy always loses.

I am REALLY starting to hate supporting/buying technology. Even the "non cheap-o" stuff seems to fail within weeks, if not months after buying it. (usually a day or so after I toss out/lose the reciept/box...

the goal of a company is to gain money... why do you think quality has declined so much in older companies.

The thing that bothers me the most is the complete lack of willingness of companies to get problems fixed.

For instance, two years ago, I bought two diNovo Media Desktop Laser keyboard/mouse combo's, setting me back almost $500. When I hooked them up, it turned out that if you have ActiveSync installed and sync your PDA, the software for the diNovo goes haywire, and the only thing you can do is reboot your computer. Now this problem has existed since the day the diNovo was first introduced and it happens on every system that has ActiveSync installed (Win98SE, XP and Vista). People have been complaining about this since day one and Logitech for some reason will not fix it - probably because it's a relatively small percentage of users that have ActiveSync installed and use this keyboard/mouse combo.

I'm still trying to get my 1959 defective hulahoop fixed or replaced. It just falls down around my feet.

It's no better in my line of work. We by far, do more warranty work than anything else. One customer is on his 3rd replacement machine in less than 1 month.
