I have an odd shaped parcel of land and need to figure out how many acres is in it.
E side=746'
W side=770'
N side=943'
S side=1032'

How to figure acres?
Thanks in advance to those better educated than myself!!!

1 acre = 43,560 square feet
All you need to figure out is how many square feet you have and use the conversion factor above.
You have a over 16 acres doing a quick calculation.

And I thought I was bad at math Nick, your decimal point is in the wrong place and there is no way it is that many acres.

But then I have been known to be wrong, I think I was once, but then I could be wrong.

But from our property that is smaller by some than ours and ours is 25 Acres.

L X W = sq ft, but what about the uneven sides? It's some sort of oddball looking un-parallellagram.

All I can tell you is that it is somewhat less than 1/2 of a 41.2 acre tract.

From those measurements, you have a trapezoid, Don.

The formula is on that webpage, I'm too lazy to do the calculations

Just to give you an estimate, I averaged the sides to get an approximate value. So, E and W average 758' and N and S average 987.5'. So a close guess is 748,525 square feet, or 17.18 acres.

Hope this helps,

Kevin

This might help but I'm horrible at math. If you can plug the numbers in it should give you what you need.

Steve, in Spain we use a comma not a decimal point..sorry!!! So it was 17.2272 in your parlance
I did the same as ybnormal 74, taking an average of the sides, and converting the square feet to acres. It is not totlly accurate, even though I displayed the full decimal points ..you actually need one angle of one corner to be exact. The way to calculate it, with the one angle, is to divide the area into two, by disecting from one corner to the opposite corner, so you end up with 2 triangles with a common third side. Then you can calculate the common third side, and the other three angles of the area. You then drop a vertical to the opposite side of the triangles, and work out the area of the four rightangle triangles you have ended up with. add the four areas, and you have the total area in square feet. Then convert to acres

Nick
Steve you have a PM

Oops Nick, I see now says the blind man.

And you are right I, at least would be lost without a calculator. At least for those types of calculations

And friends like you to catch my mistakes.

Just fingers and toes here to count on. So--about 17.2 acres.
Close enough.
..41.2
- 17.2
=24 acres

Thanks all
