Father was down this weekend, and we spoke about auto insurance.
He switched to AIG Insurance, after being with State Farm (or one of those insurance companies), and is saving about $500.00 annually over all of his vehicles that he has.
He's also had a couple of claims with AIG, and said the check was literally in his hand almost as fast as he hung up the phone after phoning in the claims.
He's been throurghly satisfied with them, and I'm considering on switching myself.
Anybody else have experience with AIG as their Auto Insurance provider? Likes/Dislikes? Pro's/Con's?
Ive dealt with them a few times with no problems. Pretty sure theyre affiliated with American General Insurance ( The General ) to. I noticed their adjuster paperwork that Ive seen, listed both companies in the letterhead. They settled easily and quickly on my estimates.
Personally, I still have my State Farm as they cover my house, and collector cars too. Id rather stick to someone thats been trustworthy to me for 30 years even if theyre a little higher, than switching to someone else. An example to me is everytime I have switched telephone companies, it took them months if not a year before they got things right, and im not willing to take that chance with insurance on my stuff.

I am in the same boat as Whitedevil, I have Progressive, through a local company where I know the adjuster. I can call her at her house if I need to, and that makes all the difference for me.

I've got State Farm now for my personal, home, and auto.
However, they bury me in paper month-after-month, from just statements, to bills, that I had to buy a new, 4-drawer, filing cabinet, just for their insurance documents. I'm surprised our post-office dosn't bill me for the U-Haul it must take them just to bring my normal mail, along with anything State Farm related to my mailbox.
I've spoke with my agent on this, asking them if they could consoldiate it all into one Policy, like I had with "Farmer's Alliance", that I would get, and pay annually. He told me it is not possible with State Farm with the policy that I have, and I don't qualify for the annual program, which allegedly is in the process of being changed, but where it may cost me more, if I am reclassified from hobby farm to farm.
I have had AIG in the past, and had no real problems with it, but it just seemed too impersonal. All vehicles are now on one policy with Progressive. My agent (who is also my barber--an entrepreneur if there ever was one), is 1st rate in my book.

HAD AIG - no problems but no claims ever filed. No problems UNTIL I needed to add daughter to policy. Policy price was 2 1/2 times the price! I called and ask them to "revisit" the pricing but was told "take it or leave it". I left it for Travelers and the pricing came in with the addition of my daughter at LESS that my original AIG! Insurance is very competitive and a large amount of growth for the companies is in attracting business from other companies by offering attractive "get you in" pricing. Shop around -- maybe even contact an independent insurance agent - and have them do the field work for you! Your or your agent should shop EVERY YEAR for insurance as the "get you in" deals are keeping them all honest. It's a shoppers market!

Back in 1995, I was broadsided in my '88 GT by a woman insured by AIG. It was cearfly her fault....she ran a red light, I had 3 witnesses who saw the entire thing......but it took me 6 months of arguing with a lawyer before I finally got a check from them. They could be the cheapest and best insurance company out there for all I care.....I will NEVER be a customer of theirs. YMMV.
