Herb Peterson, who was the creator of what is arguably the best fast food sandwich on the market, died at home this week.
The "Eggamuffin" is basically eggs Benedict with processed American cheese food in place of hollandaise sauce. Unlike other fast food breakfast sandwiches, it uses whole eggs rather than scrambled eggs from a can, as well as a slice of ham instead of greasy, fat laden sausage or fried beef or chicken. Add the toasted [often burnt] English muffin, a slice of cheese food product, and you have a tasty, easy to eat sandwich thats much less crappy than all the competitors greasy breakfast buns.

Hint: Ask for some salsa at the counter, or keep a bottle of hot sauce in your car. This really kicks...helps the sandwich taste even better!

Egg McMuffin inventor Herb Peterson dies

March 27: Herb Peterson, the inventor of McDonald's Egg McMuffin, died in his California home.
He was 89.

updated 1:15 p.m. ET, Thurs., March. 27, 2008
LOS ANGELES - Herb Peterson, who invented the ubiquitous Egg McMuffin as a way to introduce breakfast to McDonald's restaurants, has died, a Southern California McDonald's official said Wednesday. He was 89.

Peterson died peacefully Tuesday at his Santa Barbara home, said Monte Fraker, vice president of operations for McDonald's restaurants in that city.

He began his career with McDonald's Corp. as vice president of the company's advertising firm, D'Arcy Advertising, in Chicago. He wrote McDonald's first national advertising slogan, "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day."

I frequently enjoy the "Eggamuffin" and hope that the McDonalds corp will offer sandwiches at the original 1972 price in honor of the passing of Herb Peterson.

Now that's the way I like it!! Although they've jacked the price up so much in the last 6 months that I don't get them anymore.

Yeah, I haven't been to McD's in about a year, but there are only TWO things I like there - Eggamuffin and Big Mac. I do love those Egg McMuffins.

Few people heard the skit where the Mister Rogers sound-alike interviews Garrett Morris about playing the bass, and somehow the conversation got to McD's and Garrett used the word "Eggamuffin". I heard it on the radio a very long time ago. At the end, Mr. Rogers says "Let's go to the Magic Kingdom", and Morris says "Uh, no thanks man, I gotta drive."
