A weather site I use loads the JAVA platform and places an icon on the process tray.
This isn't really a problem, but is there a way to unload JAVA or is it already unloaded but
not removing the icon? I couldn't find any simple answers at JAVA.com.
I hate unused processes using system resources unnecessarily ( I really need more memory,
but that is not the issue here).
Thanks,
tg

ps. One thing I finally noticed is that when I close Firefox, it automatically unloads. Don't know
about IE, probably does there too.

If its unloading when Firefox exits its owned by Firefox. The java engine is only being used when you open up something that needs it. Otherwise its just sitting in memory.

I dont know of any advanced setting in Firefox that will unload the jre after its not been used for some time.

Just a question but if you didn't want couldn't you turn Java off under internet options?

Well, I could turn it off, but that's not what I want. I just want unused processes out of mem
when not needed. Sort of a pet peeve of mine. My system uses SDRAM (old tech) and it will cost me
about $90 or so to bring it up to a gig. I get sick and tired of every install dumping another loader or
such into the system. Dayum bloatware.
I did price a new mboard with quad AMD and 4 gig of mem from my local guy for about $250 today.
But I still don't like every install to think it is God's gift and put icons and shortcuts everywhere.
My new DSL update junked up the taskbar and didn't even ask permission.
I tracked a system slowdown to pagefile swapping. Taskbar looks a mess under processes.
I hate to do a re-install and reload what I want, but I'm beginning to lean in that direction.
