What are you guys using to clean your laptop or flat panel tv screens? My owners manual says to use a dry cloth to clean dust, but not to use any chemicals. So how do you clean fingerprints and smears off?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I use a wipe made for cleaning lcd's, tv's, plastic surfaces, etc.... Its called Nice N Clean Anti-static cleaning wipes. It works great for me. I use it on my laptop screen and housing, my 42" lcd TV, and my smart phone. You wipe it on, cleans great and evaporates quickly.

windex BADddd for flat panel screens!!!!! I can't stress this enough to all the people I install flat panels for daily! just read this! http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/...th-windex-251527.php

Just buck up and buy the correct wipes and keep it as clean as you can! if you keep it clean all you should ever have to do it hit it with a feather duster once in a while.

Ohh I guess I should say, treat it as you would any electronic device and spray what ever ON the cloth before you wipe! But I'd still rather use something I know wont damage the plastic over time..

I would advise against using regular glass cleaner on computer monitor screens. Over time, the chemicals will damage the coatings on the screen.

I use "Monster ScreenClean". When I bought my LCD Projection TV, they recommended it. I've used it on my LCD monitor with no problems. Comes with a bottle of solution, and a microfiber cleaning cloth.

OK well since I did not know that there was some special cleaner to clean them I normally just grab a paper towel with water and wipe it down. But you have to consider that what I"m wiping off (usually food or drink that came off my 2 year olds hands) is probably far worse then windex or water or any other cleaner anyways LOL Might have too look into the cleaner for the screen. Then again I probably clean my screens once a week and it hasnt hurt them yet.

I have always just used warm water and a cloth-like paper towel or something else that is lintfree. But, this might be old school.

I have always been told that Windex or glass cleaner will make the LCD turn yellow, but this might be old school, too, and newer LCDs wouldn't have that problem?

Actually I have disproven this statement. Windex does not hurt LCD screens. The manufacturers say it does so you will buy their high priced cleaners. At my shop last year, maybe 2 years ago I took an LCD screen and submerged one half in full strength windex. I left it there for a month. Did the windex etch or yellow or turn in anyway the screen? Nope. The dipped side of the screen looked just like the undipped side.

So what do I use to clean ALL my screens and all my customers screens? Windex and a soft cotton cloth

you SHOULD be able to use any glass/surface cleaner, unless specidifed otherwise by the manufacturer. most DONT have a "coating" to worry about. most DONT use a CHEAP front screen which will yellow. but - be warned - some have. and they will lose a coating & get glary or turn yellow. but - them are the exception. and - never fear the most universal solvent on earth: H2O
