I found this while cruising Wikipedia: The Ford GN-34 was an abandoned project by Ford to produce a mid-engined car in the '80's to compete with the Fiero and the Mr-2. The engine was designed by Yamaha, and later used in the SHO series.
I was wondering if anybody has more information on that car. Specifically pictures. Curiosity is killing me. I tried searching the Pff archives, but to no avail.

As listed above Ford took a Festiva coupe and stuffed the SHO engine in the rear. You could buy one of these from a dealer (I think) but I believe it was more of a 90s car rather then the 80s. The end car or project was called the SHOGUN and had some excellent statistics in the super car territory. I think it pulled more lateral Gs then the F40. The SHOGUN got some extra body parts added mainly in the name of fender flares because the engine transmission combo was that much wider then the Festiva body. I guess since the GN-34 was canceled it's probably not the SHOGUN though.

The article above on my site DrivingEnthusiast.net is mine...
One thing to clear up, a misconception. The GN-34 (codename) was not at all a competitor to the Fiero... it would have been considerably more expensive (4-5x $$ at least) and was aimed at a very high entry-exotic market. Ford tried everything to build it, and even discussed contracting the build with Porsche. You may know that at the time Ford had Porsche do some advanced engineering on the then-upcoming Duratec V-6 engine line.
Also, it was never previewed in a car show, contrary to what is reported on the SHO site.
Ford has no official pictures, I'm a member of their press group and had them try to dig one out. No luck. Their is no official info at all. The only known photo was a spy shot back at that time... and it wasn't very good.
