Let me just start off with saying that I haven't actually "purchased" a game in almost 4 or 5 years. I usually just download it from torrent and have my fun beating it, and uninstall. But, in the spirit of legality and a sense of new moral commitment, I decided to buy Crysis.
So I went to the website, and as they have now, you can download games instead of buying a CD or DVD, COOL! That's one trip I don't have to make and gas I don't have to use.
I downloaded it, decrypted it, extracted it, installed it. Party time right? Wrong. Apparently there's an error where you can't play the downloaded version because it can't authenticate that you own it through EA. WHAT?!
I thought about calling EA for a serious gripe out session, but instead went to Game Copy World and downloaded the no CD/DVD crack. And the game works.
In case you are missing the point, after years of stealing games, I paid $50 for a game and had to steal it to play it anyway. Ironic or coincidental?
Maybe if you actually BOUGHT a few games, they wouldn't hafta waste so much time working on their anti-copying code!

There's nothing worse then spending money on a game, and then it stinks. It's always good to read ahead and find out how a game is, and I know games are expensive, and yeah, I have played a few *ahem* games ate a *cough* "reduced" rate... I have had a bunch of peoblems with a few games that I bought, and it was due to their stipid copy protection stuff.
Thank God for GameCopyWorld! Their "no CD" patches saved the day several times for me (an XP pc just wouldn't allow a game to run due to the disc's protection, even if I ran it in "compatability mode")

Good point, I'll steal more games so that they can spend more time on their anti-piracy code - and maybe next time it will at least work for the legal users

So how is the game? In your opinion, was it worth the money? Are the system requirements as insane as everyone is saying? And last but not least, does it have joystick support?
I'm thinking of buying another game... trying to decide between the Orange Box, BioShock, Call of Duty 4, or Crysis. I'm a big fan of the Half Life series, so am leaning toward the Orange Box.

I wondered that also, Google told me the error I was getting was quiet common when the demo released, but nothing about the full game. Then again, I did have it installed an hour or so after the release time, so Google may not have cataloged the forums yet.

Boonie, have you tried the Cinematic Mod for Half Life? In addition to hi-def models of the primary characters, there's additional musical scores added that gives the game an epic motion picture feel. It's pretty cool.

NO! And I never even HEARD of It!!! Better get my SEARCH on!
There's nothing more frustrating then stealing junk.
So, hows the game? I'm playing The Orange Box, right now. Ah, memories!
But what looks good is Call Of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare. And interesting: Jerrico.
Call of Duty 4 is my pick for game of the year so far. The graphics are simply jaw dropping, and unlike Cryssis, don't require a Cray Supercomputer to run with all the eye candy turned on. Not wanting to spoil much, but some of the missions in the game such as the one that takes you back to Chernobyl and the one where you control the miniguns and mortar in an AC-130 Spooky are just all out great! Probably one of the most polished games I have played in a long time.

Use the "Character Pimper" to choose which model you want to use. Earlier versions (CM4 etc.) use the "Alyx Construction Kit" which does the same thing, but only works on the Alyx model. CM5 also had models for Eli, Breen, Barney, etc.
Recognize these guys from the big Ant Lion fight while the Vorts try to heal Alyx?
Here's a few screen shots showing the Hi-Def Alyx model. There's a Valve style HD model, and an original style model.
Close up showing a bit more detail: (yes, the "naughty" version is included as well)
There are other Alyx outfits for the new model - some more realistic for actual play, like an olive drab flight suit for when she's leaving for the helicopter.
The outfits and models are fun, but the big change is the additional music that really does change the feel of the game.

He's also quite development of any more mods because of the complaints he received that the new model didn't look exactly like Valve's Alyx, even though there was a HD version of the Valve Alyx, and you could use the original Valve models as well. It was all optional, and free, and people still complained. Can't say I blame him.

Found this video intro to the Half Life 2: Cinematic Mod. It's not the current intro movie - not sure if it was a pre-vis or earlier version, but you get the feeling for how the Cinematic Mod changes the feel of the game. Really cool.
Here's the one in the current version - using all footage from the game.

The EVGA eGeForce 8800GT Superclocked went "back in stock" at ZipZoomFly lastnight and sold out in 20 minutes. I missed it by about 3 minutes. The time it takes to place an order.
ETA for EVGA eGeForce 8800GT Superclocked, KO, & SSC..................11-19-07. Monday. Limited Supply.
How much hardware do you need to run it with the graphics maxxed out?
On my current machine, a QX6700 running at 3.2 Ghz, 8800 GTX, 4 GBS DDR 8500, WD Raptor 150, Sound Blaster X-Fi, I get about 20 FPS running the game with things set ot high detail at 1920x1200. Dropping the resolution seems to help lots, as does lowering the shadow and shader quality. Very high, and ultra high are borderline unplayable. I shelved the game until I get a beefier system as in the later levels, my machine just doesn't have enough oomph to run things smoothyl when things get hectic on screen.

So the game nearly needs hardware that doesn't exist yet to max everything out? Geez.

I don't know about "Galaxy", but I am indeed interested! Checking it out now. That's a canadian company, right? Will they convert to USD at checkout? I also seem to remember their shipping to Alaska is treated like Tibet. And they're my neighbor!!!
Checking it out as we speak....................................... Thanx!

Or SLI. From what I hear over at Nvnews.net, guys running SLI with 2 x 8800 Ultras are getting 30 + FPS on max settings.
Dang! I would've thought the above setup would have hit about 60fps in Crysis! But, there has GOT to be a current system out there that runs it maxed out! Otherwise, how'd the developers test the game, at it's max settings?

I bought the DVD two days ago and unfortunately I'm amongst the happy few for which the game won't install. Whenever I try to install the game, I get an error about some corrupted .cab file (Error 1335). And judging by the posts on other forums, there are many more people with the exact same problem.

It has the same specs as the EVGA e-GeForce 8800GT KO 512MB:
I've had no less than 3 defective BFG cards right out of the box, I've heard others have had better luck. If you grab it I hope you have better luck with them than i did.

I'm waiting on EVGA. Reason? I feel more comfortable about being able to get a SECOND card from them in a few months, EXACTLY like the first one, to make SLI possable. I've heard of SOME manufacturers cards disappearing, or changing the onboard memory chip manufacturer, leaving you unable to do SLI. From what i've heard, EVGA is not one of them.

I would recommend EVGA over BFG as well. My first BFG 6800 GT ran as hot as the sun, and after looking at the heatsink I noticed that the screws were barely tightended, and there was a huge gap between the GPU and the heatsink. After tightening the screws down, I noticed that my brand new then $400 card had massive articacting. I called BFG, and was completely honest with them about what I had done, and was told that because I modified their stockcooling I had nullified my warranty. It was the most expensive paperweight I have ever bought. EVGA on the other hand has been great to deal with with any problems I have had.
