I am scanning some (about a million) for my niece to put onto a DVD and hoped someone here could help me out.
I am wondering what would be the lowest dpi to scan at to get the good results for display on a standard definition TV, and still maintain speed when scanning. That is, not wanting to scan at 1200 dpi because it is so slow.

the scans can be very low res for TV. I forget exactly. It's pretty low 72 or 96 is the max. It's not over 100 DPI. TV is less than 640x480 displayable. A good margin gets chopped in the overscan.

Thanks for the reply.
The Epson scanner I have has 150, Win 96, or Mac 72 dpi as choices.

I had a weird malfunction when posting this question, I got a 'can't display, page has expired' message and see I have made a double post.
May have something to do with inhaling to many spray bomb vapors while helping the granddaughter paint a cigar box...

As an edit, posing a thought, if I choose a higher resolution then I can effectively increase the apparent size of the photo/image on a tv, right?
Wish my DVD player could do DVD-RW, I could do an easy test. Oh well, I guess using a 30 cent DVD is worth it to find out what works best.

Thanks again ogre for the reply.

What you may want to do is scan them at the native resolution of the scanner and then down sample them using the WinXP Picture Resizer Powertoy. (microsoft.com windows XP download section. Easy to find.) The power toy does whole directories in no time. That lets you try a few resolutions quickly if you don't like the results.

I love Powertoy Resizer.

I copy all my photos (by the hundreds) to CDs. They work in most CD/DVD players and are cheaper. If the girls want to print their own, they can take the CD to the store and do it themself...I dont know if those read DVDs or not. (KMart, Wallgreens, SamsClub, etc)
