When I bought my Cherokee, I was told it had a blow on the back box.Didnīt bother me, because it was driveable..so now I have been under to check it out...and there is no hole!! It just sounds like it I see there are two welds on the box...and I think the problem is that the baffles inside are loose. If I put my hand over the pipe, it blows it off pretty quickly, so I know there is no leak.I think the baffles inside are loose, and resonating.I just checked the price of a new backbox here in Spain...!! $235!!! Sooooo...I think I might just find a suitably-sized box from the wrecker yards, and fab one myself
I have asked this on a Jeep Forum..but nobody wants to comment!!

if you are talking about a rattle from the muffler take a few hose clamps, put them together and put them around the muffler to stop the rattle. This should also help the idle.

I could draw you a picture if you think it would help?
