its amazing how much the owners loved their cars, isnt it?
and, even more amazing that they were not allowed to keep their cars. what was the actual reason?

If its the show I think it is, the cars in question were GM's EV1, correct?

If that's the case, the people weren't allowed to keep their cars because GM didn't sell the cars to them, they only leased them, and GM didn't give them the option to buy them after the lease period ended. Logic says that its because GM didn't want to have to stock the parts for the cars for the next 20 years, since it was such a limited and specialized collection of parts and number of cars that were sold. Whether that's the real reason that GM never sold any of them, I dunno.

yes - the EV1. and, yes, I expect there are many "business only" reasons. It just seemed very very odd that the people wanted them, offered money for them, and were not allowed to have them. instead - people had to wait for Honda & Toyota to fill their wants.

Same thing happened to Chryslers turbine car. They used the ' not legal import ' bs because the bodies were made by Ghia and shipped to the US. I knew a family in high school that got one ' for testing feasiblity purposes ' and loved it. They didnt want to give it back either.

Yea, GM put a large engineering effort into those cars only to find there was not enough market intrest to sell them.
There were LOTS of very specialized parts in those things, gears, motors electronics. By the time the leases were
up on the EV-1's most of the suppliers that made the parts were out of business.

I watched them dismantle alot of them in Mesa a few years ago......
