I heard on the radio today that some b*st*rd cut the ears off his puppy (right down to its head apparently) to make it look and act more aggressive. The scumbag was supposedly teased by friends of his that his dog was too good-natured. The five month old pup was discovered by authorities with bleeding and infected ears after the SPCA had been anonymously tipped off.
WTF is wrong with some people??!!!
Here is a link to an earlier report (before they knew as many details).
Especially after having such a fun day like last Saturday at the beach with our beautiful and gentle Husky, it makes me sick to think that some people have so little regard for living creatures.

yea i never really understood people who do that.... and it was probably a pit bull. i hate how people make those dogs mean and agressive.... i mean i can understand wanting your dog to protect the backyard but letting your dog have a mind of its own and think that no one is its owner makes it dangerous to everyone even the owner. i like how dogs ears look naturally and dogs like huskies when they perk their ears up when they hear something looks awesome. poor dogs....

talk about a good candidate for a broken pair of knees.....if you wanna get that done, at least have it done by a certified person when they're still young.
Beautiful photo, pretty young lady...and a sickening story.Put hm in a cage with 4 big dogs, hands and legs tied, and let them bite his....ears off.

I have never condoned cropping of ears or tails. I had a Doberman until last November, she died of cancer at 14 with her long floppy ears and tail intact.

Just so it’s absolutely clear, I probably should’ve mentioned in my original post that this dog's ears were not “cropped” in the traditional sense or by someone who knew what they were doing.

From the news story
“Both his ears were severely injured," said Nancy McCabe, the manager of field operations for the humane society. "His ears were all raw and bloody. We believe he (the owner) either took a kitchen knife or a hand saw and cut the dog's ears off."

Thanks guys. Ten year old Alannah will be very pleased to hear of the compliments. We’ve had Frankie for a month now and these two young ladies have been inseparable.
I felt it was necessary to show something of beauty and love and tenderness to counteract the ugliness of the thread topic.
I found a couple of pictures of the mutilated puppy. The only good news is that the owner will not be able to get the dog back now, and also that the SPCA will be pressing charges against the sick SOB.
You'd have to be dead inside to be able to look this dog in the eye while hacking off his ears.
That makes me want to scream...To think that dog can suffer being approached or touched by any human being after such evil treatment..the love is STILL there in his eyes. Ear for an ear, I say..in Public. And that goes for any crime, IMOH.

I understand what was meant by the original post, and this is horrific what was done to this poor creature
What I meant was, I think ANY mutilation is bad, even "professional" cropping. I have a German Hunt Terrier, you are "supposed" to crop their tails at 2/3 length to meet "breed standards." It does not do the dog any good, it's just for the sake of human style/vanity to have a "perfect" example of the breed.
The sick SOB who injured this dog needs to be "put to sleep."

What's wrong with having someone's knees busted up by an uncertified, older person? I'm definitely not young, nor am I a certified knee-breaker, but I'd still put my best effort in...
...
In all seriousness... that's just f'ed up. It's also the last thing a large dog needs these days--attempts to make them mean. The big guys field enough crap from the media as it is.

Some of the working breeds whose tails were traditionally docked had reasons for it loooooong ago, but for pet homes and cosmetics I agree it's completely unnecessary. It also makes it harder to read body language, both from a human's perspective and other dogs'. There's more to the tale a tail can tell, than simply whether or not it's wagging.
